WAVEFRONT PROPELS GAMEWARE TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF GAME AUTHORING TOOLS WITH
VERSION 3.0

GameWare Upgrade Delivers Advanced New Character Animation and Modeling
Capabilities Tailored for the Requirements of Next-Generation Game
Developers

LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 11, 1995 - Wavefront Technologies, Inc. (Santa
Barbara, Calif.) (NASDAQ:WAVE) today announced version 3.0 of its GameWare
graphics software for game development. The new version provides major
upgrades to the software's character animation and modeling capabilities.
Game developers can now utilize the software to create sophisticated
character animation, facial animation, "lip-sync'd" animation, and more
realistic looking props and environments.

"Much of GameWare 3.0's development effort has been focused on solving real
world game production issues," said Bruce Sinclair, director of product
and industry marketing for Wavefront. "This version truly pushes the
envelope for cutting-edge character animation and modeling, and offers our
customers dramatically enhanced functionality and flexibility. GameWare
3.0, coupled with the new Hyper Plug-ins recently announced, demonstrates
the immense R&D effort and new product technology we are bringing to
market for this industry."

GameWare 3.0 delivers new tools for automated creation of complex character
movement and facial animation. Wavefront's SmartSkin technology has been
made more intelligent with overlapping flexors and multiple skins per
object, providing users with better control over skin behavior.
Wavefront's unique Digital Doll interface has also been enhanced with
controls for joint stiffness and damping to create even more realistic
character movement.

A new interface for real-time motion capture and viewing is provided with
version 3.0 for industry-standard devices such as Digital Image Design's
Monkey, the Polhemus Ultra Track, and Ascension's Flock of Birds. Also
offered is an open architecture motion capture interface that allows
support for new performance animation devices to be quickly added by
Wavefront customers.Facial animation, a key component of the upgrade, is
accomplished with Wavefront's unique sculpting tool, which allows an
infinite number of expressions to be generated by sculpting in between any
number of base poses. As an option, version 3.0 delivers an innovative
approach to lip syncing. Animators can simply type in phrases or
soundtrack lyrics to automatically generate accurate "lip-sync'd"
animation. "Combined, these two techniques offer a solution that is
unparalleled in the industry," added Bruce Sinclair.

With GameWare Pro 3.0, Wavefront is also launching TrueMap within its
advanced NURBS, polygon, and metaball modeling package. TrueMap uses a
technology called "conformal texture mapping" to minimize omnipresent
texture map distortion. TrueMap works in a manner very similar to the way
a cloth designer works - it includes an "unfolding" algorithm that
automatically unfolds the 3D object into a flat, 2D object. This 2D
object, like a pattern in cloth design, is textured while flat so that
when it is "re-sewn" there is no distortion. To obtain objects that unfold
easily, the object is often cut so that a proper, flat pattern can be
created. TrueMap gives users the option to interactively cut and sew lines
on the object to achieve the best result. "With competitive software, the
user must project many maps from different points of view and carefully
blend the maps together. With TrueMap, a single, or at most a few maps are
needed to guarantee a perfect match with the 3D geometry," added Bill
Cottrell, games industry marketing manager for Wavefront.

GameWare is a high-end computer graphics software package designed
specifically for asset creation within the game development environment.
GameWare and its family of Hyper Plug-ins is the only Silicon Graphics
workstation-based software to provide a complete end-to-end solution for
2D and 3D asset creation in the games environment. GameWare Hyper Plug-ins
are available to provide advanced levels of dynamics, particle physics, 2D
special effects, color reduction, and painting. Two recently announced new
Hyper Plug-ins are Activation, graphics software to prototype and author
3D interactive games, and GET (Game Export Tool) which automatically
transfers all game assets to next generation game machines, including Sony
PlayStation, Sega 32X/Saturn, 3DO, and Atari Jaguar.

Since its introduction, GameWare has quickly become established among
leading-edge game developers. The rapidly growing list of gaming companies
using Wavefront software includes: Acclaim, Accolade, Arc Development,
Argonaut Software, Atari, Blue Sky Productions, Capcom, Core Design,
Electronic Arts, Interplay, The Learning Company, Malibu Interactive,
Midway Manufacturing, Namco, Ltd., Nintendo, Sega, SNK, Spectrum Holobyte,
Taito, Time Warner Interactive, and Williams Entertainment.
