Carleton Announces Strategic Alliance With Sybase

COMPANIES PARTNER TO DELIVER INTEGRATED DATA WAREHOUSING TECHNOLOGY

DB EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO, May 2, 1995 -- Carleton Corp. and Sybase, Inc.,
today announced the planned integration of Carleton's PASSPORT data
transformation software with SYBASE Open Client and Open Server
application programming interfaces (APIs). The effort will provide
seamless integration of Passport with all SYBASE server, query access, and
interoperability components of the SYBASE Warehouse WORKS framework, which
are all based on the APIs.

The joint development effort is being driven by mutual data warehouse
customers of Carleton and Sybase who desire a seamless integration of
transformation, server, and middleware technology. The resulting benefits
are two-fold:

Clients will be able to - in one process - create, extract, transform, and
load meta data and warehouse data into target SYBASE and non-SYBASE data
warehouse databases and/or data marts via the integrated PASSPORT and
SYBASE Enterprise CONNECT(TM) interoperability software.

Clients will also be able to source data from multiple hardware platforms
in one process through PASSPORT and SYBASE Enterprise CONNECT products.

"Today's businesses require an integrated approach for effectively
incorporating operational data into a data warehouse environment for
strategic decision making. Sybase addresses the data access, assembly, and
distribution components of this solution through SYBASE products within
the Warehouse WORKS framework," said Mike Forster, president of MDI, a
Sybase company. "The integration of Carleton's PASSPORT data
transformation software with Open Client and Open Server will play a key
role in extending this framework to provide customers a seamless,
integrated solution for their data warehousing requirements."

"The ability to effectively convert operational data into information that
can be used for strategic decision making is playing a critical role in
companies striving for a competitive edge," said Paul Fluckiger, CEO of
Carleton Corp. "The combination of our PASSPORT warehouse management
software integrated with Sybase's Warehouse WORKS components will provide
these corporate customers with a highly effective means for managing,
accessing, and distributing this data throughout an enterprise data
warehouse environment."
