Sybase and Informatica Announce Alliance

COMPANIES INITIATE JOINT EFFORT TO INTEGRATE INFORMATICA'S OPENBRIDGE
SOFTWARE WITH KEY COMPONENTS OF SYBASE'S WAREHOUSE WORKS DATA WAREHOUSE
FRAMEWORK

DB EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO, May 2, 1995 -- Informatica Corporation and Sybase,
Inc. today announced that Informatica's OpenBridge software, which
dynamically extracts and transforms operational data for data warehouses,
will be integrated into SYBASE Warehouse WORKS, Sybase's client/server
framework for data warehousing.

As a Sybase industry partner, Informatica will enable its source reader
technology to retrieve data directly through Sybase's Open Client. This
will allow the transformation and aggregation of legacy data with
relational information stored in a SYBASE database server within one
graphical environment. OpenBridge will also be integrated with SYBASE
Replication Server for seamless replication of meta data to distributed
data warehouse sites.

Mike Forster, president of MDI, a Sybase company, said, "The integration of
Informatica's OpenBridge with SYBASE Warehouse WORKS builds on Sybase's
commitment to providing our customers best-of-breed third-party solutions.
With its client/server-centric approach, OpenBridge answers the demands of
data warehouse builders who require an end-to-end transformation solution
that supports a distributed enterprise environment. Together, Open Bridge
and Warehouse WORKS will enable customers' rapid development of both
centralized and decentralized data warehouses, combining data from legacy
systems and from SYBASE relational databases."

Gaurav Dhillon, president, Informatica Corporation, said, "Warehouse WORKS
demonstrates the openness and architectural flexibility that has made
Sybase a leader in client/server computing. OpenBridge's new direct access
to Warehouse WORKS enables full end-to-end development and population of a
data warehouse using data from SYBASE operational systems. This creates a
wealth of new opportunities for warehouse designers."

CUSTOMER PRAISES INFORMATICA/SYBASE AGREEMENT

Andrew Sebok, director of advanced systems at McGaw, Inc., an OpenBridge
beta tester, said, "OpenBridge facilitates access to the information vital
in making sound business decisions and helps us to maximize the benefits
we derive from our new client/server technology. The process of extracting
data from legacy systems into an enterprise-wide Sybase data warehouse
requires the capability to manage the mapping, transformation and
distribution of data and meta data. By automating all phases of this
process and integrating with SYBASE Warehouse WORKS, OpenBridge will prove
to be a time -and cost-saving solution for McGaw."

INFORMATICA'S OPENBRIDGE SOFTWARE

OpenBridge is a recently-released software tool suite that enables
corporations to rapidly design and populate a data warehouse. Using
dynamic processes configured on the fly to load data directly into the
data warehouse, OpenBridge is designed to eliminate the need to
re-generate code in response to changes. OpenBridge's client/server
architecture allows for seamless integration with SYBASE Warehouse WORKS.

SIGNIFICANT FEATURES OF OPENBRIDGE INCLUDE:

- A repository that stores meta data (data about each data element)
- An innovative visual interface that enables rapid warehouse
  development
- Automatic mapping and transformation
- Multi-database support

OpenBridge is priced from $65,000 per server. Components run on Microsoft
Windows and UNIX platforms. Supported legacy data sources include standard
mainframe and minicomputer environments.
