Sybase Announces Three Data Warehouse Partners

STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIPS WITH DATA TRANSFORMATION PROVIDERS CARLETON, ETI,
INFORMATICA EXTEND SUPPORT FOR SYBASE'S WAREHOUSE WORKS DATAWAREHOUSING
FRAMEWORK

DB EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO, May 2, 1995 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced strategic relationships withthree
of the industry's leading data transformation providers: Carleton
Corporation, Evolutionary Technologies, Inc. (ETI), and Informatica
Corporation. Through these relationships, the three third-party vendors
will each offer data transformation products optimized for SYBASE
software, significantly extending support for Warehouse WORKS,
Sybase'sclient/server-based data warehouse framework. These data
transformation solutions complement the SYBASE server, query access and
interoperability products within the Warehouse WORKS framework, which
address the data assembly, distribution and access components of a
datawarehousing environment.

"Data transformation software plays a critical role in the datawarehousing
process, providing the ability to modify operational datafrom a range of
sources to support decision making," said Mike Forster, president of MDI,
a Sybase company. "The relationships with Carleton, ETI, and Informatica
extend Sybase's commitment to offer datawarehousing customers
best-of-breed, third-party solutions that are optimized for SYBASE
software and support their diverse data transformation requirements."

SYBASE-OPTIMIZED DATA TRANSFORMATION SOLUTIONS

Sybase has entered strategic relationships with Carleton, ETI, and
Informatica in which each data transformation provider will optimize its
software to support SYBASE products.

CARLETON CORPORATION

Carleton and Sybase will jointly integrate Carleton's PASSPORT warehouse
management software, which handles the creation, loading and management of
meta data and warehouse data, with SYBASE Open Client and Open Server
application programming interfaces (APIs). The effort is aimed at
providing seamless integration of PASSPORT with all SYBASE server, query
access, and interoperability components of the Warehouse WORKS framework,
which are all based on the APIs.

"The ability to effectively convert operational data into information that
can be used for strategic decision making is playing a critical role in
companies striving for a competitive edge," said Paul Fluckiger, CEO of
Carleton Corp. "The combination of our PASSPORT warehouse management
software integrated with Sybase's Warehouse WORKS components provides
these corporate customers with a highly effective means formanaging,
accessing, and distributing this data throughout an enterprise data
warehouse environment."

EVOLUTIONARY TECHNOLOGIES, INC.

Evolutionary Technologies is working jointly with Sybase's engineering team
to co-develop a component for ETI's EXTRACT Tool Suite, which will allow
users to quickly and easily load information from other data sources -
including applications such as SAP - into their SYBASE database servers. A
key enhancement under development is a transactional database loading
mechanism that can selectively retrieve, insert, update and delete changed
data. The feature, which complements existing support for Sybase's bulk
load facility, will be unique to ETI's Tool Suite version for SYBASE
software.

"Collecting, converting, and migrating data between the existing
environments and the new ones, such as data warehouses, is often themost
costly and time-consuming part of implementing and maintaining a new
architecture," said Robin Curle, executive vice president of sales and
marketing for ETI. "ETI's collaboration with Sybase will provide customers
with a broad suite of tools to facilitate the process of integrating data
from a variety of sources, including applications like SAP, into data
warehouse environments utilizing SYBASE database servers."

INFORMATICA CORPORPORATION

Informatica is integrating its OpenBridge software, which dynamically
extracts and transforms operational data for data warehouses, with the
SYBASE Open Client API. This will allow transformation and aggregation of
legacy data with relational information stored in a SYBASE database server
within one graphical environment. OpenBridge will also be integrated with
SYBASE Replication Server for seamless replication of meta data to
distributed data warehouse sites.

"Warehouse WORKS demonstrates the openness and architectural flexibility
that has made Sybase a leader in client/server computing," said Gaurav
Dhillon, president of Informatica Corp. "OpenBridge's new direct access to
Warehouse WORKS components will enable full end-to-end developmentand
population of a data warehouse using data from SYBASE operational systems,
creating a wealth of new opportunities for warehouse designers."

SYBASE WAREHOUSE WORKS

A data warehousing application needs to make information readily available
by assembling data systematically, transforming it to a consistent view
for business usage, distributing it where needed, and above all, making it
accessible. SYBASE Warehouse WORKS, introduced in November 1994, provides
a client/server-based framework to address these four key data warehousing
requirements. Built on the open foundation of Sybase's Open Client and
Open Server interfaces, Warehouse WORKS offersusers:

The industry's leading interoperability solutions for assembling and
distributing heterogeneous data through Sybase's Enterprise CONNECT
product family.

Exceptional high-speed access to data through a family of SYBASEserver
products, including SQL Server, Navigation Server, and IQAccelerator, a
unique Sybase technology designed to quickly deliveranswers to any query.

The ability to integrate best-of-breed products, including 125+ certified
tools and data transformation software from vendors such asCarleton, ETI
and Informatica.

As a complement to the Warehouse WORKS framework, Sybase has developed the
SYBASE Warehouse WORKS Alliance program. The program, an extension of the
SYBASE Open Solutions Program, is designed to help customers seamlessly
integrate data warehousing technology from Sybase's partners into the
Warehouse WORKS environment. Key features of the WarehouseWORKS Alliance
program include engineering and consulting professionals who work
cooperatively with Sybase partners to design and integrate technology, as
well as a certification laboratory to ensure that third-party products
access the Warehouse WORKS framework transparently.
