SPA and Steptoe & Johnson to Host Digital Commerce Conference

May 8, 1995 (Washington, DC) -- In cooperation with the law firm of Steptoe
& Johnson, the Software Publishers Association is co-sponsoring a
conference, "DIGITAL COMMERCE: Law, Policy, Profit, and Pitfalls," at the
ANA Hotel, Washington, D.C., June 19, 1995.

Online commerce is purported to be the "killer application" for networked
computers in the 21st century. As a result, many companies, including
telecommunications, computer, software, and financial firms are making
large investments premised on the view that doing business over computer
networks will soon be a standard feature of modern life. Implementing this
vision depends in no small part on government policy and law, and raises a
variety of questions that will be addressed at the conference.

"Never before have so many of the key players in the development of online
commerce been assembled for such a comprehensive discussion," said SPA
Executive Director Ken Wasch.

"This will be more than a conference," says Steptoe & Johnson partner
Stewart Baker. "It's the beginning of a long-term dialogue between the
entrepeneurs who are creating digital commerce and the government
officials who will help shape the terms of competition in this new
industry."

The conference will feature prominent technical and business leaders in the
field interacting directly with policy-making officials. Speakers include
William Reinsch, Under Secretary for Export Administration at the
Department of Commerce, and our luncheon keynote speaker, Larry Irving,
Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and
Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information
Administration.

Registration fee is $245 for SPA members, and $295 for non-members.
Registration fee includes the one-day conference, continental breakfast,
lunch and course materials. To register, or for additional information,
