NETCOM SELECTED AS INTERNET ACCESS PROVIDER FOR CANON'S NEWEST PC LINE

Internet-Ready PCs A Reality With NETCOM's Flexible, Nationwide Service

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 2, 1995 -- NETCOM On-Line Communication Services,
Inc. (NASDAQ:NETC), a leading provider of direct Internet access, today
announced that Canon Computer Systems Inc. (CCSI) selected NETCOM as the
Internet access provider for its newest line of personal computers. Canon
will deliver Internet-ready PCs pre-loaded with NETCOM's NetCruiser
navigation software, enabling immediate Internet access.

"We wanted to provide our users with easy access to the Internet," said
Peter Bergman, vice president of marketing for Canon Computer Systems,
Inc. "NETCOM is one of the leading Internet service providers, and we
chose its NetCruiser interface because it enables users to get up and
browse the Net in a matter of minutes. This is especially important for
our customers in the small office/home office market segment who demand
technology that is cutting-edge, yet easy to understand and use."

This move further solidifies NETCOM's strategy of providing immediate,
turn-key Internet access to all users, from the novice to the seasoned
professional. More personal computer users are expecting access to the
Internet, and having NetCruiser pre-loaded into today's hardware makes
getting onto the "information highway" as easy as clicking a mouse.

"NETCOM's strategy mirrors Canon's in that we both want to provide
"plug-and-play" solutions that are easy for any level user," said Don
Hutchison, vice president of sales and marketing for NETCOM. "NETCOM
facilitates this by providing NetCruiser, an intuitive browser that is
easy to navigate, in conjunction with low-cost direct access through
NETCOM's own high-speed digital network."

Canon is currently shipping NetCruiser as pre-loaded software with its
newest MT line of Innova PCs. With each NetCruiser-equipped PC, Canon is
including NetCruiser documentation and a copy of "The Internet Road Map"
(Sybex), an independently-written tutorial on the Internet. Canon is
currently shipping the Internet-ready PCs to retail stores nationwide.

NetCruiser Internet access is $19.95 per month for 40 hours of prime time
connectivity (9 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday) and unlimited
off-peak use. Additional prime time hours are billed at $2 an hour.
NetCruiser accounts are automatically billed monthly via a major credit
card.
