San Diego, CA - METACOMP, Inc. announced today the immediate availability
of the ATcomm/BRI, a fully integrated basic rate ISDN data and
telecommunications interface adapter card for ISA bus-based PCs,
workstations and workgroup servers. The card supports 2B+D channelized
data I/O operations, and is available in two interface versions: the U
interface version offers an integrated NT1 for direct connection to the
Telco's ISDN circuit, or the S/T interface version for connection to an
external customer or Telco-supplied NT1.

The ATcomm/BRI performs all CCITT Q.921 and Q.931 ISDN call setup and
management protocols using an on-board Motorola 68302 processor executing
firmware from Flash memory. On-board link-level protocol support is
provided for raw (unframed) data, HDLC framing, and PPP. Protocol
selection is configurable on a call-by-call basis for each B channel. In
addition, the Multilink PPP protocol is supported allowing both ISDN B
channels to operate as a single logical connection for bandwidth
aggregation up to 128 Kbps. The V.110 rate adaption protocol is supported
in hardware for interoperability with switched 56 and rate adapted 56 Kbps
ISDN connections.

The product's hardware architecture is designed to minimize host system
processing overhead and provide configuration flexibility to minimize the
possibility of ISA bus memory and I/O address and interrupt conflicts. 256
Kbytes of on-board Flash memory is used to store the field-upgradeable
firmware and user-configurable parameters. The ATcomm/BRI has 512 Kbytes
of on-board dynamic RAM. Up to 128 Kbytes of the RAM can be shared on the
ISA bus and is used together with a 32 byte bidirectional FIFO register
file to implement a high level command/response message and data buffering
scheme. The messaging system provides the host system with a powerful, yet
easy- to-use programming interface targeted for performance-demanding
applications in high-end PCs, workstations, workgroup servers, routers and
remote access servers.

The ATcomm/BRI is available immediately from stock. Quantity one end user
pricing for the S/T interface version is $450; the U interface version is
priced at $550. OEM and VAR volume pricing plans are offered. A TAPI
compatible driver for use with Microsoft Windows NT is available
immediately and is bundled with the product, along with NT-compatible
configuration and firmware loader utilities. Drivers for other operating
systems are planned for release in the near future. Additionally,
extensive documentation of the ATcomm/BRI messaging interface is available
for OEMs and others needing to develop specialized drivers using the
products high level command/response messaging system.
