Intusoft has introduced a new SPICE model library for power supply
designers. It is the first SPICE library to contain a comprehensive set of
switching level models for Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) ICs. The new
library represents a major breakthrough for SMPS designers. Previous
models were based almost exclusively on state space average models which
don't show many important nonlinear effects. The library does include a
unique "unified" state space PWM model which works for AC, DC, and
transient analyses in continuous and discontinuous modes. However, the
switching level models give designers a capability they have never had
before; the ability to plug in a model, representative of the actual IC,
and simulate the transient switching performance accurately and
realistically.

Included are over 20 voltage and current-mode PWM IC models for parts from
Unitrode (UC184x series, UC152x series and UC182x series), Linear
Technology (LT124x series), Siliconix (Si9145), and Cherry Semiconductor
(CS322/324). Some models are created with multiple levels of complexity.
This allows the engineer to select the appropriate model features of
interest and thus control the simulation efficiency. The models utilize
analog behavioral elements, special Boolean logic elements unique to
Intusoft's ISSPICE, and new HDL elements. Together they greatly reduce the
model's simulation runtime, an important factor in SMPS analysis.

The library also includes SPICE models for nonlinear magnetic cores
(Magnetics MPP series and various European cores), IGBTs, transformers,
voltage regulators such as the TL431, motor controller ICs (UC1637), and
power factor correction ICs (UC1854).

The price of the library is $395. The library will be available July
17,1995. The models are compatible with Intusoft's native analog and mixed
mode SPICE 3 based simulator, as well as existing ICAP/4 systems for DOS,
NEC, Windows, Macintosh and the Power Macintosh. A FREE issue of the
Intusoft Newsletter is available from Intusoft describing the models in
detail.
