IBM to Release Multimedia Magic in New Interactive CD-ROM Titles

HOLLYWOOD, CA, May 11, 1995 . . . The town known for tinsel and talent will
be the setting for multimedia magic today when IBM shows off its growing
line of interactive multimedia titles of reference, education and
entertainment software on CD-ROM.

IBM's announcements will coincide with today's start of the Electronic
Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. IBM will preview more than a dozen
of its current and future interactive CD-ROM titles at "Multimedia: Magic
in the Marketplace," a Hollywood-style event at Los Angeles' historic
Union Station.

IBM will also announce its intent to bring the popular Jungle Book story to
CD-ROM, in association with The Kushner-Locke Company, a Hollywood
producer and distributor of feature and television films. The Jungle Book,
an interactive "talk to me" adventure, is a CD-ROM based on the
live-action movie starring Jason Scott Lee and distributed by Walt Disney
Pictures. The IBM CD-ROM will feature live-action characters, including
Mowgli, the jungle boy raised by wolves, and animals popularized by
Rudyard Kipling's famous novel. The IBM CD-ROM will include voice
recognition technology, which will allow users to talk their way through
the adventure.

IBM plans to release at least 14 more new titles later this year, including
The Adventures of Hyperman, an interactive cartoon adventure that teaches
children the properties of science. This animated superhero will also have
his own Saturday morning series on CBS beginning in September.

Also planned for 1995 release from IBM are Peter and the Wolf, narrated by
Tony Randall, Emergency Room, and KidRiffs. IBM's upcoming sports titles
include All-American College Football, Pro League Baseball, and NFL Pro
League Football. They use actual performance statistics to allow users to
simulate fantasy games involving players and teams from different eras.
Those and other titles -- both new and existing -- will be demonstrated at
today's event.

"Customer expectations for consumer and business software are converging.
In business, IBM stands for technology, quality, reliability and support.
People are now looking for those features in the interactive multimedia
software they buy," said Steve Mills, general manager of IBM Software
Solutions. "By joining IBM's strengths in software technology with the
talents of selected partners, we're bringing IBM's interactive multimedia
software to more people."

IBM already has 10 interactive multimedia CD-ROMs on the market. Several
have been cited for industry awards, including The Playboy Interviews:
Three Decades, which received Windows Magazine's 1995 Win 100 Award.

Also as part of today's announcements, IBM's new multimedia software, as
well as popular current titles such as Consumer Survival Kit, will now
carry the IBM logo.
