IBM OS/2 Warp Connect Provides Rich Remote Network Access

                    Fact Sheet

May 17, 1995 -- With IBM OS/2 Warp Connect on a remote system, users can
access the resources of their local area networks from anywhere they have
a telephone line. OS/2 Warp Connect even enables two users to build a
simple peer network over a telephone line.

OS/2 Warp Connect is a one-box solution which includes OS/2 Warp, a
BonusPak of popular applications and a rich set of communication products
for users who need on-line access to resources or information, remotely or
from the desktop.

OS/2 Warp Connect's remote features are based on IBM's LAN Distance, the
most complete remote LAN access software solution available. LAN Distance
supports all major LAN environments, including IBM LAN Server , Novell
NetWare, Banyan VINES and Artisoft LANtastic.

With OS/2 Warp Connect installed, users can transform a remote system into
a fully functioning LAN client. Users working away from the office can
access their LANs over public telephone lines and run LAN-based
applications, making concurrent multiple connections to their
central-office server or to LAN-attached PCs. Laptops become clients with
OS/2 Warp Connect.

OS/2 Warp Connect does not require a dedicated communication server for
remote access and supports a variety of PCs and adapters. Its remote
features use a device driver replacement technology to provide a superset
of functions offered with other remote LAN access products available
today. OS/2Warp Connect allows customers, systems integrators and software
developers to easily extend their client/server applications to remote
users.

OS/2 Warp Connect gives users the same look and feel as their regular
desktop while at home or traveling. It exploits the OS/2 Workplace Shell
to provide an object-oriented user interface for administration and remote
computing. An optional command interface supports integration with
end-user applications.

OS/2 Warp Connect also offers several features for network administrators.
It features a single object-oriented graphical user interface to manage
multiple servers on the LAN. Statistics such as user connection time, port
use and data traffic can be captured to help evaluate network use and
charge back for connection time. Features for call status, error logging,
problem tracing and alerts for error conditions are supported to ensure
maximum availability of network resources.

                        LAN Bridging

Other features include LAN-to-LAN bridging, wherein a LAN-attached
workstation can instruct the connection server to dial another server or
remote PC off the LAN. For example, businesses with large numbers of
branch offices could use this feature to update software on PCs at all
locations.

OS/2 Warp Connect supports all the most popular network operating systems
as well as IBM Communication Manager/2, IBM Database Manager/2, IBM
TCP/IP, and Lotus Notes and CC Mail. OS/2 Warp Connect supports LAN
applications that interface to the NetBIOS, NetBEUI, 802.2, NDIS or
NDIS/ODI programming interfaces. OS/2 Warp Connect supports a variety of
IBM and OEM communications adapters including asynchronous, ISDN (basic
and primary rate), synchronous (switched and non-switched 56), and x.25
(direct and via asynchronous PAD).

OS/2 Warp Connect offers multiple security features to ensure that only
authorized users gain access to the LAN via its remote services. Each user
is identified as a user, administrator or security administrator, with a
specific, fixed set of privileges for each type. Instead of passwords,
OS/2 Warp Connect supports passphrases, which have proven to be easier to
remember and offer better security. Standards-based encryption and message
authentication codes ensure passphrases cannot be captured and reused.

                    Enterprise Edition

An additional OS/2 Warp Connect CD-ROM containing enterprise features such
as a DCE client, NetView Distribution Manager Startup support, and Anynet,
among others, will be available later this year.

OS/2 Warp Connect will ship with Lotus Notes Express, which offers e-mail
and discussion applications, and news and reference databases. OS/2 Warp
Connect ships with the OS/2 Warp BonusPak of more than a dozen OS/2
applications, including easy Internet and CompuServe access, FaxWorks,
Person-to-Person, Hilgraeve's HyperAccess, and IBM Works.
