Farallon Receives Patent for Award Winning EtherWave Technology

ALAMEDA, Calif., May 9, 1995--Farallon Computing, Inc., a leading provider
of innovative networking software and hardware, today announced that it
has received U.S. patent number 5,414,708 covering its award-winning
EtherWave networking technology. EtherWave is the only network technology
that allows PCs, notebooks, Macintoshes and printers to be daisy chained
in a 10Base-T Ethernet network.

EtherWave's self terminating, dual RJ-45 design is considered breakthrough
technology. The product is daisy chainable, which allows users to create a
small network of up to eight devices without using a hub. With existing
networks, EtherWave permits up to seven devices to be daisy chained off of
each available 10Base-T hub port. For example, EtherWave and a standard
four-port 10Base-T hub will support a network of up to 28 computers and
printers.

"Looking ahead, we're going to leverage the inherent networking
capabilities of Windows 95 to translate our existing EtherWave success in
branch offices to the SOHO and home LAN market," said Alan Lefkof,
president and CEO of Farallon. "We've worked closely with Microsoft to
insure creating a network with EtherWave and Windows 95 is truly Plug and
Play."

Rapid network growth that exceeds the number of hub ports is a common
occurrence that is easily solved by using EtherWave. EtherWave eliminates
the need to install new wire, run new network drops and purchase larger
hubs. Many schools use EtherWave to set up computer labs and save money
when adding multiple computers in classrooms with only one or two network
drops.

Corporate offices and government agencies use EtherWave to add nodes to a
network after the hub is full, while branch offices and small businesses
use the product to install small networks quickly and easily without using
a hub at all. "EtherWave has made 10Base-T networking dramatically easier
for all size networks, particularly remote branch offices where customers
need a solution that reduces installation time and networking and
maintenance costs," said Ken Haase, Farallon product manager.

The first EtherWave products were shipped in September, 1993 and included
networking interface cards, transceivers, and adapters. Farallon expanded
its EtherWave product line by adding a PCMCIA Adapter for notebooks in
June, 1994.

Apexx Corporation of Boise, Idaho is the first vendor to license the
EtherWave technology for its PC parallel port adapters, and Farallon is
discussing licensing opportunities with additional vendors.

EtherWave has received over a dozen awards, some of which include: PC
Magazine Technical Excellence Award: Network Hardware Finalist, 1994;
MacUser Magazine Editors Choice, Hardware Product of the Year, and Best
New Network Hardware, 1993; MacWeek Magazine 5 out of 5 Diamond Rating.
