New T1 Integrated Radio System Eases Wireless WAN Management

Features remote terminal management via svstems software

May 16, 1995 -- Sunnyvale, CA--Cylink Corporation announced that it will be
demonstrating the new AirLink T1 radio at Wireless Datacomm, May 16-17 in
San Jose, CA.

The new AirLink T1 radio brings WAN management simplicity to unlicensed
wireless network operation thanks to new user interface software. The new
radio enhances "where wire won't go" applications and backs up wired T1
connections. It expands Cylink's AirLink wireless communications family to
full T1 speeds (1.544 Mbps) at over 20 miles.

AirLink T1 features weather-proof housing for easy outdoor installation and
maximum range. The radio can also be installed indoors when cable loss is
not a factor.
The AirLink T1 integrated radio system includes the AirLink T1, an AirLink
T1 Access Unit and a 2ft. or 4ft. parabolic antenna. (more)

Interface Designed For Easy Management

The key to AirLink T1's manageability is new user interface software for
terminal or modem interface that allows network administrators to manage
and monitor the radio from a desktop or laptop PC at either and of the
point-to-point link or remotely by dial-up modem from a centralized
management facility.

With user-selectable configuration and control parameters resident in the
AirLink T1's non-volatile memory, the network manager can change
configuration parameters, query current status and performance
information, review event logs and run diagnostic tests.

Network Flexibility

The AirLink T1 Radio System is configured to provide point-to point links
between networks, point-to point links as a backup to wired service and to
private branch exchange (PBX) and key telephone systems (KTS) access to
remote telecom facilities.

Network managers are tuming more and more to wireless WANs as an
alternative to wired solutions to connect remote "corporate orphans."
Remote locations are often in areas already crowded with conduit or are
isolated in areas where cable simply can't reach. Then, too,
administrators are seeking redundancy to protect against wire failure.

Wireless WANs are also seen as sound economic alternatives to wire
connectivity. The AirLink T1 radio system, for instance, can eliminate T1
installation charges and monthly lease charges.

Spread Spectrum Radio Reliability

The Cylink AirLink T1 System is a spread spectrum transceiver that operates
in the 5.725 to 5.850 GHz range in the Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM)
band. AirLink T1 uses a spread spectrum modulation technique to create a
high quality, point-to point radio link between itself and another AirLink
T1 radio located miles away.

The AirLink T1 Radio System features time division full duplexing for
noninterrupted, complete data transmission.

Priced at about $20,000 pet link, installed with a pair of AirLink T1
radios and 2 ft. parabolic antennas, the AirLink T1 system is available
for immediate shipment.

The AirLink T1 radio is the second member of Cylink's AirLink wireless
communications family to be introduced in the past few months. In August,
the company introduced the AirLink Bridge, the wireless bridge that set
the industry standard for combined range, rate and robustness.

Cylink Corporation is the international leader in advanced spread spectrum
radio technology that has leveraged innovations in information and network
security into wireless remote internet vork technical leadership. The
Company was founded in 1984 and is an affiliate of the Pittway
Corporation.
