Apple New Media Forum: World Tour '95 Debuts in Cannes

CANNES, France--May 5, 1995--The curtain rose on a new era of new media as
more than 750 creative and business professionals from around the world
converged here this week at the Apple New Media Forum: World Tour '95. The
two-day, four-city forum is designed to inform the audience--a mix of
experienced multimedia developers, creative professionals, interactive
musicians and business executives--of the power and promise of new media.

The Apple New Media Forum: World Tour '95, held May 3-4, featured two days
of 35 illuminating sessions and lively discussion, fueling the exchange of
ideas between the creative community and the growing cadre of Apple
multimedia developers.

The Forum, presented by Apple Computer, Inc., spotlighted a group of more
than 65 noted speakers as diverse as James Burke, noted television
host/author/educator; Dominique Bourse, vice president, Disney Interactive
Europe; Makoto Yamashina, president and CEO of Bandai Co., Ltd; Dr.
Francesco Tato, CEO of Italian publisher Mondadori Group; Marco Landi,
president of Apple Computer Europe; Dr. Mller von Blumencron, vice
president of Online Services, Bertelsmann AG; Pierre Bourniex, vice
president of Research and Technology, Matra Hachette; John Perry Barlow,
Electronic Frontier Foundation co-founder and Grateful Dead songwriter;
and musical artist Peter Gabriel.

In his welcoming remarks, Satjiv S. Chahil, vice president of Apple's New
Media and Entertainment Group, commented on the opportunities that stem
from the convergence of industries, and challenged the audience to make
technology more relevant to people's lives. Chahil illustrated how
interactive new media has the potential to dramatically impact how we
work, learn and play.

Opening day keynote speaker, David Nagel, Ph.D, senior vice president of
Apple's Worldwide Research and Development, presented compelling reasons
why the software development community should remain committed to and
developing for the Macintosh platform, including: the ability to easily
deploy software on other platforms; gain access to the most powerful
multimedia development tools in the industry; and enjoy the benefits of
Apple's long-standing technology leadership and innovation.

In the Forum's second keynote session, visionary James Burke's wide-ranging
and insightful remarks encouraged the audience to reflect on the way media
has shaped history and to consider how the use--and misuse--of data and
information can affect society's future course, often in unexpected ways.

Although the Apple New Media Forum in Cannes ended on Thursday afternoon,
its effects are still being felt on the Information Superhighway. With the
participation of the conference attendees, Apple established a World Wide
Web site to offer the rest of the world a few of the insights from the
forum. Extending the conference beyond Cannes, QuickTake camera images,
conference event summaries and other information can now be accessed on
the World Wide Web (http://www.media.apple.com). In addition, many
participants created their own home pages using the Apple Internet Server
Solution for the World Wide Web, and in less than an hour were "publishers
on the Internet."

In addition to the Cannes event, the Apple New Media Forum will travel to
the following cities:

 -- Los Angeles, California: June 5-6, 1995
-- New York, New York: June 14-15, 1995
 -- Tokyo, Japan: Fall 1995
