Apple Launches Reseller Programs for Workgroup Servers

CUPERTINO, California--May 8, 1995--In a move designed to increase customer
support and service for its networking products, the Apple USA division of
Apple Computer, Inc. today announced two programs designed to train,
recognize and reward Apple authorized resellers in the United States who
demonstrate a superior level of technical expertise and a focus on Apple
networking solutions, including PowerPC microprocessor-based Workgroup
Servers.

"This is a great boost for resellers who are looking to enhance their
workgroup solutions selling expertise," said George W. Everhart, vice
president for Apple sales in the U.S. "These programs are intended to
enhance the capabilities of resellers and to recognize resellers who
provide quality, first-tier technical support for Apple networking
products and Workgroup Server solutions."

Both programs--the Apple Premium Server Reseller Program and the Apple
Certified Server Engineer (ACSE) Program--are open to all Apple authorized
dealers and value-added resellers (VARs) in the U.S. who meet the
requirements and conditions of the programs. "Apple has carefully put
these server programs together to help resellers provide added-value to
business customers," said Mark Goble, general manager for Oak Brook
Computer Centre, an Apple reseller headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois.
"These programs are just one more way for us to differentiate our level of
service from that of our competitors."

Server Reseller Program

The Apple Premium Server Reseller Program is designed to recognize and
reward resellers who demonstrate technical expertise and develop a focus
on Apple server products and workgroup solutions. The program offers
participating resellers a range of sales and marketing opportunities,
including collaborative marketing programs and leads, special terms on
demonstration equipment, enhanced technical support information and tools,
priority technical support escalation, and incentive and rewards programs
for successful Workgroup Server sales.

In order to participate, resellers must qualify by meeting a series of
requirements, including server certification training to ensure
participating systems engineers (SEs) have advanced expertise in

Workgroup Servers from Apple and in network design and management.
Resellers must also submit a program application, develop a sales and
marketing plan on workgroup solutions, demonstrate value-added solution
sales capabilities and have a history of selling Workgroup Servers. The
program is designed to provide additional incentives for resellers who
want to focus on server sales and support and does not restrict any Apple
authorized reseller from offering Workgroup Server solutions.

Certified Server Engineer

The Apple Certified Server Engineer (ACSE) Program provides industry
recognized certification to individuals who have demonstrated a capability
to install, manage and support Apple Workgroup Servers, AppleTalk-based
networks and server-based solutions. The program is open to anyone and is
not restricted to dealers or VARs.

To become certified, individuals must pass a series of three tests to
demonstrate their ability to install, backup and manage AppleShare
servers; design and implement an AppleTalk-based network; and manage, tune
and add new services to existing AppleTalk networks. Published materials
to prepare for the tests are available for self-study. National training
is also available for a fee from San Francisco-based Network Frontiers,
Inc. To ensure ACSEs are knowledgeable in current products and
technologies, certification will need to be renewed every two years.

required three tests for certification is expected to be from $90 to $110
in the U.S. A four-day training class to prepare for any of the three
certification tests is available nationally from Network Frontiers. The
