NET WATCHMAN APPLETALK MONITOR GOES NATIVE, SUPPORTS SCRIPTS

New 2.2 Version Increases Alert Options With AppleScript Support

Walnut Creek, CA--May 8, 1995--A new version of Net Watchman, The AG
Group's AppleTalk network early-warning system, is now shipping. Major
enhancements in Net Watchman 2.2 include native support for Macintosh
computers built around the PowerPC processor and support for AppleScript
alarm notification.

Net Watchman is a network management program which provides alerts and
alarms based on network events. It uses the AppleTalk protocols to monitor
all zones, bridges, nodes and services and notifies a network manager when
any item disappears or reappears, or when there is a change in
functionality.

Many New Notification Possibilities

With new scripting support, the possibilities for notification or action at
an alarm are almost endless. Built into the program are options for visual
and audio notification as well as paging. If you ask Net Watchman to
execute a script at the alarm occurrence, you can then automate what
happens next according to your own needs. Actions you can take fall into
two categories: notification and rectification.

Notification Options

Options for notification are based on user need and convenience. Some
options to consider, which have been employed by some of our test sites
for the product, include:

   - Send Internet e-mail
     (with a third-party system)

Rectification Scenarios

Net Watchman and AppleScript can now be used to automate responses to
network problems. An example is an alert which notified that a printer was
down. This alert could be scripted to:

   - the problem is being rectified.
   - traffic to and from the printer for later reference.

Pricing and Availability

Net Watchman version 2.2, a "fat binary", is available now. The update
consists of a patch, which updates versions 2.1 and later to version 2.2.
The patch is free and available at all AG Group online locations,
including Internet, Worldwide Web, AppleLink, CompuServe and eWorld.
Registered owners of earlier Net Watchman versions pay $50 for the update.
Net Watchman lists in the U.S. and Canada for $295 with discounts
available for education, developer, government and consultant accounts.
Net Watchman 2.2 can be purchased from Ingram Micro (North America only),
AG Group resellers, international distributors and directly from The AG
Group. Net Watchman is also sold as part of NetPatrol Pack bundles, which
can also include EtherPeek, an Ethernet network analyzer, TokenPeek, a
Token Ring network analyzer, and LocalPeek, a LocalTalk network analyzer.

All AG Group products include free telephone, e-mail and fax support for
the life of the product and a 90-day free update period. As an alternative
to purchasing an individual upgrade to Net Watchman, registered Net
Watchman and NetPatrol Pack 1 owners may purchase extended maintenance,
thereby increasing the 90-day update period by 12 or 24 months. Annual
maintenance provides priority technical support, automatic shipment of
product upgrades and updates, "TechTips" mailings, free utility software
and more. Net Watchman 12-month service contracts are $80 in the U.S.
