SYBASE GRANTS MAJOR SOFTWARE DONATION TO UC BERKELEY COMPUTER SCIENCE
DIVISION

$194,000 Gift Marks the Debut of Sybase's Higher Education and University
Relations Program

Emeryville, CA, February 6, 1995 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced that it has donated Sybase SQL
Server 10 relational database management software and Gain Momentum
software to the Computer Science Division at the University of California
at Berkeley. The software will be used for undergraduate and graduate
computer science courses in database, multimedia technology, and for
research projects.

According to Mark Hoffman, chairman and CEO of Sybase, the donation is
evidence of Sybase's continued commitment to supporting the advancement of
education. "Client/server technology is the solution for today's business
problems and we are happy to be providing our technology for the
advancement of today's students. Education is key to our future technology
and the technology of our customers."

Founded in 1984, Sybase employs over 4,000 people worldwide. Sybase is
committed to supporting community and educational efforts, and recently
donated $10,000 to the Eugene H. Lawler Fellowship at UC-Berkeley. The
Lawler Fellowship assists disadvantaged minority and women students
pursuing computer science careers.

The donation of Sybase SQL Server 10 and Gain Momentum software to UC
Berkeley inaugurates Sybase expansion into Higher Education Marketing. In
partnership with Sybase University Relations, Higher Education Marketing
intends to build relationships with key universities by providing new
client/server technologies for academic use.

Robert Wilensky, chair of the Computer Science Division at UC-Berkeley,
expressed gratitude for Sybase's support. "On behalf of the students and
staff who will benefit from this gift, I want to thank Sybase. This
software donation will provide major improvements in our computer science
