SilverPlatter Information and UMI Enter into Publishing Agreement

Five UMI Databases to be available from SilverPlatter

January 23, 1995 -- SilverPlatter Information and UMI, A Bell & Howell
Company, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announce a cooperative publishing
agreement whereby five UMI databases will be available from SilverPlatter.
The databases are ABI/INFORM, Periodical Abstracts Research 11 Edition,
Newspaper Abstracts, Dissertation Abstracts, and Pharmaceutical News
Index.

This publishing agreement marks a significant collaboration between two
major companies in the information industry. Commenting on the new
publishing arrangement, Nancy Knight, VP of U.S. Information Provider
Relations at SilverPlatter, noted "We are extremely pleased to be able to
offer UMI databases to SilverPlatter subscribers. These databases are
outstanding additions to our collection of products. Working closely with
UMI represents a major step in building a worldwide library. It is through

ABI/INFORM is an essential source of business information. It offers
comprehensive coverage of companies and products; business strategies and
tactics; management tools and trends; case studies of successes and
failures. Topics include: accounting, banking, computers, economics,
energy, engineering, environment, finance, health care, human resources,
insurance, international trends, law, management, marketing, public
administration, real estate, taxation, telecommunications and
transportation. This database provides complete bibliographic information,
indexing, and 25- to 200-word abstracts for articles published in over
1,000 business journals, including more than 350 published outside the
United States. Two coverage options are available: 1971 to present or 1985
to present. A full-text version contains the complete text of selected
articles from 550 major publications since 1991.

Periodical Abstracts Research ll Edition is a complete reference to popular
magazines, business periodicals, and academic publications. Primarily
designed for the demanding research environments of large academic and
corporate libraries Research ll Edition covers more than 1,600
general-reference publications. Years covered are 1986 to the present. A
full-text version contains the complete text of selected articles from 300
major publications since 1992 and 1993. An additional 300 titles will be
added in 1995. .

Newspaper Abstracts (27 Paper Edition) provides researchers with
cover-to-cover access to articles appearing in the nation's leading
newspapers: The New York Times, The Atlanta Constitution (includes
selected articles from the Atlanta Journal); The Boston Globe, The Chicago
Tribune; The Christian Science Monitor, The Los Angeles Times, Wall Street
Journal; The Washington Post, USA Today and others. It combines complete
bibliographic citations, precise indexing, and concise informative
abstracts. For each newspaper, Newspaper Abstracts covers international,
national, regional, and local news, business and finance, editorials,
commentaries, letters to the editor from prominent people, arts and
leisure, special series and supplements, sports, and obituaries of eminent
persons. Coverage is from 1991 to the present. Backfiles covering material
from 1989 to the present are also available.

Dissertation Abstracts is the resource for original academic research, past
and present. It provides access to original academic research from over
1,000 universities throughout the world, including most North American
graduate schools and many European universities. It is the most
comprehensive information resource covering more than 1.2 million doctoral
dissertations and master's theses. Records in this database include
abstracts, authors, advisors, titles, institutions, degrees, dates,
author-assigned subjects and descriptors, number of pages, and
availability of information. Coverage is from 1981 to the present with an
optional backfile dating back to 1861 also available.

Pharmaceutical News Index covers essential publications related to the
pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and medical devices industries. This database
contains bibliographic information and indexing for all articles published
in 20 key U.S. and international pharmaceutical, health care,
biotechnology, and medical device industry publications. It also includes
citations to company and industry reports from Thomson Financial Networks'
Investext database. The reports are prepared by leading brokerage firms
and financial research organizations. Start dates of coverage range from
1974 to 1990.

The UMI databases are available for hard disk storage and over the
Internet, and are accessible using SilverPlatter's ERL (Electronic
Reference Library) Technology. Dissertation Abstracts and Pharmaceutical
News Index are also available on SilverPlatter non-ERL platforms.
