SI and HP Join Efforts to Provide Next-Generation, Server-based, Data
Warehouse Reports

Houston, Texas, February 21, 1995 - Software Interfaces (SI) and
Hewlett-Packard Company today announced SI's ProReports will be integrated
with HP's Intelligent Warehouse. ProReports allows a report to be created
on a client and run on any client or server while retaining the identical
formatting attributes. With SI's ProReports and the HP Intelligent
Warehouse, users can schedule when to run a report on a server so system
resources are optimized: the client is freed for other tasks, and network
time and traffic is reduced. Also, large reports can be printed out on
heavy-duty printers attached to the servers.

"We are very pleased to have been asked by Hewlett Packard to join in this
effort," says Rahul Mehta, President of Software Interfaces. "HP is years
ahead of the competition in the implementation of management solutions for
data warehousing."

"We have recognized Software Interfaces not only for their excellent
end-user information access and delivery capabilities, but also for their
powerful client/server design strategy," says George Ferguson, HP's
OpenWarehouse Program Manager.

ProReports allows users to create multiple queries from multiple databases
in the same report -- allowing innumerable ways to access, view, analyze,
and present on previously inaccessible data. For example, a user could
combine manufacturing data from Informix in an HP Intelligent Warehouse,
purchasing information from Oracle on another HP Intelligent Warehouse,
and forecasting information from Microsoft ACCESS on a PC -- all in a
single report. In addition to allowing multiple queries on heterogeneous
data sources, ProReports allows users to perform operations on the results
of those queries, and these results can then also be incorporated in the
same report.

"SI's ProReports has very powerful, yet easy-to-use report writing
features," says Ferguson. "With ProReports' multiple-query capabilities,
users can easily do simple to complex comparisons -- for example, compare
this year's results to last year's results and display this side-by-side
in a report. This is how people think and how they want to see their data
presented, but it is very difficult to do this with present-generation
report writers. SQL does not support this in a single query. ProReports,
however, does this easily and presents the information very nicely."

Beyond allowing the user to create presentation-quality reports on a client
with just clicks of the mouse, ProReports' client/server capabilities
further enhance the report design process. With ProReports, users can
define breaks and sort fields at run time, and import graphics at run
time. They can also make changes to reports without re-executing queries.
Also, ProReports' Performance Advisor can detect and suggest alternatives
to queries that may consume the resources of a data warehouse. There are
many more features like these in ProReports that facilitate the
implementation of a true client/server strategy.

"We feel that ProReports together with HP's Intelligent Warehouse will give
companies the ultimate in data warehouse systems: ease of use, power, and
flexibility, plus a system extensible to support an enterprise's changing
needs," says Mehta. "Together they offer scalability for departmental, to
multi-site, and to enterprise-wide data warehouse system solutions."

"Our client/server strategy for querying and reporting perfectly
complements the design strategy of data warehousing, which is to optimize
system resource usage while providing end users with fast and easy access
to corporate information," says Mehta. "We are currently the most advanced
querying and report writing tool in its class to incorporate a true
client/server methodology. This strategy allows us to provide host-based
batch reporting capabilities with the ease of use and full desk-top
publishing capabilities users expect from GUI-based tools. Additionally,
the powerful yet easy-to-use querying technology in ProReports lets users
create reports that were never before possible without heavy 3GL
programming."

In addition to accessing Intelligent Warehouse-resident databases through
ODBC, ProReports can natively access CA-OpenIngres, DB2, Informix, Oracle,
Rdb/VMS, and Sybase. It can access other data sources through middleware
like EDA/SQL, SequeLink, and more. ProReports for Microsoft Windows
pricing starts at $695.00 on the client. ProReports pricing for the server
starts at $10,000.

HP is the second-largest computer supplier in the United States, with
computer-related revenue of $19.6 billion in its 1994 fiscal year.

Hewlett-Packard Company is a leading global manufacturer of computing,
communications, and measurement products recognized for excellence in
quality and support. HP has 98,400 employees and had revenue of $25
billion in its 1994 fiscal year.

Software Interfaces, founded in 1985, is headquartered in Houston, Texas,
with offices in The Netherlands and Singapore. Its software solutions are
currently in use by thousands of users in the Fortune 500. SQLASSIST, SI's
flagship product, was judged by Dr. Paul Dorsey, President of the
International Ad Hoc Query SIG, to be the best ad hoc query tool
available, "SQLASSIST is a highly polished, well-planned product... The
great number of advanced features made it a winner for novice and power
users," -- Client/Server Supplement, Information Week, May 1994.
