Sega Enterprises moves 32-bit machine production out of Japan

TOKYO - Sega Enterprises Ltd. plans to move all production of its 32-bit
video-game machines to Taiwan or Southeast Asia sometime in 1995, although
the company has not yet decided in which country it will set up shop.

The company currently produces all of the machines in Japan in cooperation
with a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. Sega says it still intends to use an
existing Hitachi overseas location.

According to the company, the move in production is being made to cope with
the strong yen.

In other Sega news, Quixote Corp.'s Disc Manufacturing unit has been
selected as the first independent replicator of Sega CDs. Quixote says the
Sega of America unit has designated Disc Manufacturing as an authorized
manufacturer of Sega CD products for third-party software licensees.
