CHANGING NATURE OF ELECTRONIC DESIGN WILL BE FOCUS OF KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT
PCB DESIGN CONFERENCE

CEO of Industry Consortium to Discuss How 'Information Highway' and
Worldwide Distribution of Expertise Drive a New, Borderless Model

San Francisco, Calif -- February 15, 1995 -- Competitive pressures,
globalization and the emerging electronic information highway are having a
dramatic impact on the electronic design industry. D. Marshall Andrews,
CEO of the Interconnection Technology Research Institute (ITRI, Austin,
Tex.), will give his perspective on these changes in the keynote address
at the 1995 PCB Design Conference, March 20 - 24 at the Santa Clara
Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif.

"Rapid changes in technology are altering the way companies do business,"
says Andrews. "Single companies cannot maintain expertise in all aspects
of system design, so OEMs are looking for suppliers who bring unique
capabilities to the table. At the same time, the ability to link multiple
design centers electronically is making concurrent, borderless design a
reality."

Andrews will discuss how design professionals can best work in an
environment where customers may be next door or on the next continent, and
review the new skills required to remain competitive in today's
environment.

As head of the ITRI Consortium, a group of 55 companies working to improve
circuitboard technology and develop more efficient manufacturing
techniques, Andrews has a refined perspective on the problems -- and the
great potential -- of today's electronic design and assembly industry. He
notes that design professionals have to be cognizant of all stages of the
system design process, even if they are only responsible for a single
aspect. Additionally, developers of the software tools used throughout the
industry must move from supplying point solutions to seamless systems that
allow electronic hand-off of designs between each stage of the total
process.

Now in its fourth year, the PCB Design Conference is the premier industry
conference and trade exhibition focused on the interests of printed
circuit design professionals. Andrew's keynote, at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday,
March 21, is the official kick-off for the technical program and the
three-day trade exhibition. Workshops, seminars, lectures and full-day
tutorials for design professionals begin on Monday, March 20, and the
latest in products and services for electronics system design will be
exhibited from March 21 - 23. Other events scheduled during the conference
include the EDA Face-to-Face Roundtable, 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
March 22, and PCB Benchmark '95, an independent grading of EDA tool
vendors posted on Thursday, March 23.

The PCB Design Conference is the annual showcase for engineering
technologies used in the design and manufacture of printed circuit boards.
It is produced by Miller Freeman, Inc., the third largest trade show
producer in North America. A wholly-owned subsidiary of United Newspapers
pld of London, England, the company produces dozens of electronics and
software conferences and trade shows, including: Autodesk University, The
Embedded Systems Conferences (East and West), MechanCAD, Surface Mount
International, and OS/2 World Conference and Exhibition.
