ODS Introduces New Token Ring Cluster Controller Module for Infinity Hub

The 1094-IBM-CC to provide migration path from proprietary SNA-based 3174
architecture to standard TCP/IP-based Token Ring LAN's

Boston, MA--February 13, 1995--Today, Optical Data Systems, Inc (ODS),
(NASDAQ-NMS:ODSI) announced a new 1094-IBM-CC cluster controller module at
the Networks Exposition in Boston, MA, booth #2530. The 1094-IBM-CC
provides IBM 3174 users with a migration path from IBM's SNA SDLC
transport to Token Ring LANs.

In the past, users who needed SNA host access were connected remotely to
the larger host processors through a 3174 Establishment Controller on a
low-speed communication line. Today, the 1094-IBM-CC cluster controller
module, with embedded 3174 features, makes it possible for users to access
the SNA host through a connection to the Token Ring LAN. In other words,
the module makes it possible for users to be connect to both SNA and LAN
worlds, as well as delivering a broad range of workstation connectivity
options for each environment

The 1094-IBM-CC provides several ways to incorporate 3270 terminals,
cabling and host applications into the LAN hub For example, it is possible
to attach up to thirty-two 3270 category devices to the module using
standard IBM 3299 terminal multiplexers. Or, the module could be
configured as a Token Ring gateway to a remote SNA host providing speeds
up to 64 Kbps and supporting up to 250 Downstream Physical Units (DSPU).

The 1094-IBM-CC takes up two slots in the Infinity chassis and can be
attached to any one of the four Token Rings on the backplane. The module
is hot swappable and is supported by redundant power supplies within the
Infinity Hub chassis The module supports:

* SDLC and X.25 host protocols
* 3174 RAS functions
* Advanced peer-to-peer networking
* SNA Physical Unit 2.0 functions
* TCP/IP Telnet server
* Token Ring Gateway (group poll/duplex multipoint)

Availability and Pricing

The 1094-IBM-CC was officially introduced today at the Networks Expo in
Boston, MA, and will begin shipping in volume quantities immediately The
module is priced at $16,000.

Corporate Position

"The 1094-IBM-CC module is an ideal way to consolidate your network
infrastructure while moving into the LAN environment and integrating your
current 3270 equipment," said Robert Hoskins, Product Marketing Manager,
ODS He added, "It makes an especially attractive upgrade for current 3274
control unit users who want higher functionality than the old 3174
Establishment Controllers had to offer, as well as users who are looking
for a clear migration path to Token Ring networks."
