Galacticomm now shipping The Major BBS for UNIX

Ft. Lauderdale -- Jan. 23 -- Galacticomm, Inc. announced that the UNIX
version of its best-selling, multi-user bulletin board system software,
The Major BBS, is now shipping. Beta testers have extolled the product's
user friendliness, portability, and tight Internet integration.

"The beta test period was an amazing demonstration of this product's
portability," says Galacticomm's President and CEO Scott Brinker.
"Generally, the developer receives input during the beta trial about minor
glitches or other inconsistencies that need to be corrected. However, this
trial period has been remarkably different because beta testers are
telling us how the product is going beyond what we told them it would
do."

The Major BBS for UNIX offers e-mail, group discussion forums, file
transfer, real-time teleconference, polls and questionnaires, QWK-mail,
and more for to 256 simultaneous users on a single machine. Users connect
via TCP/IP, modems, or serial links. The BBS machine can be connected via
SLIP, 56K, ISDN, X.25, or T1.

Chris Dunne, system administrator for the Houston Chronicle, says his
publication is using the new release to improve communication with
employees in the field. "We're a UNIX facility, so The Major BBS for UNIX
gives us better compatibility with our existing network," he says. "It's
more of a user-friendly remote access server than a bulletin board. I
think it's what companies with UNIX platforms have been looking for."

Dunne was among the beta testers who is taking full advantage of the new
release's capabilities. The Major BBS for UNIX offers remote management
ability. As a result, he is able to keep the host machine in a computer
room, which offers tighter security and the availability of computer
operators 24 hours a day. Dunne says he is able to handle all management
and maintenance duties without going near the machine.

The Houston Chronicle has also tested The Major BBS for UNIX's portability.
Galacticomm's UNIX edition can support two operating systems -- BSD/OS 1.1
for the PC architecture and Solaris 2.3 for Sun SPARC platforms. However,
the newspaper tested it on the less-powerful Classic. "I've had eight
sessions running, and it has worked just fine," he says.

For companies wanting to offer Internet access to users or to launch their
own interactive service on the Internet, The Major BBS for UNIX is ideal.
The UNIX operating system offers built-in support for Telnet, FTP,
Internet e-mail and USENET newsgroups via TCP/IP. In addition, the UNIX
version offers a new feature, User-Defined Applications (UDAs), that
integrates external text-based applications as seamless menu options.

Carlo Marazzi, owner of Caribbean Internet Services in San Juan, PR, says
he's taking advantage of The Major BBS for UNIX's UDA feature and tight
Internet integration to offer clients Internet shell accounts through the
BBS. The shell account offers user s cost-effective access to a limited
number of Internet functions through the BBS, such as gopher, telnet, FTP,
WWW client, gopher, and more.

"Since UNIX is already a multitasking machine, we can add any application
we want, such as gopher and World Wide Web, and it all runs on the same
machine," Marazzi says. "It's a lot better than doors." (External
applications are incorporated with "doors" to a second computer in the DOS
platform).

The Major BBS for UNIX will also include an X Window interface for Sysops
to perform maintenance while the system is running -- either locally or
remotely over a network. The eight-line version has a suggested retail
price of $2,995.

Galacticomm is a privately held Fort Lauderdale corporation. The company
