NEW RACAL-DATACOM INTERNEXT HUBS OFFER UNIQUE FILTERING CAPABILITIES TO
SMALL WORKGROUPS AND REMOTE SITES

Cost-effective hubs rival performance of expensive, high-density
competitors

SUNRISE, FL -- Racal-Datacom today expanded its INTERNEXT family of
intelligent hubs with the introduction of two new products which bring
high-end switching capabilities at cost-effective pricing to fiber
backbones and small work groups. The INXLink-10BTF filtered standalone hub
and the INX5000 Filtered 10BaseFL (10BF-FTR) fiber module incorporate the
Racal-Datacom "network on a card" design, combining ports, management and
filtering technology into a single product.
This unique filtering capability provides separate but interconnected 10
Mbps networks by filtering local workgroup traffic from the backbone. In
addition to reduced backbone traffic, benefits include improved
throughput, fewer network errors and increased network security.

This type of bandwidth enhancement, usually found only in expensive
switching hubs, is now available in the INXLink 10BTF and INX5000
10BF-FTR. The products are designed for fiber backbones and small
workgroups that require high-performance networking capabilities but are
not effectively served by higher-cost hubs.

INXLink-10BTF Filtered Standalone Hub

The INXLink-10BTF offers 12 or 24 ports with RJ45 connectors for direct
connection to network devices, including PCs, file servers and printers.
They can perform as standalone units or be stacked together to form larger
networks, allowing customers to increase bandwidth incrementally without
investing in Ethernet port switching or Fast Ethernet solutions.

Racal expects interest in the INXLink-10BTF from insurance companies, banks
and other customers requiring a cost-effective bandwidth upgrade for
workgroup applications. The company's INXLink product line includes
Ethernet, Token Ring and Network Terminal Servers and addresses the 'rack
& stack' market, one of the largest, fastest-growing segments within the
overall hub market.

Prices for 12-port models start at $3195; 24-port models are priced from
$3695.

INX5000 Filtered 10BaseFL (10BF-FTR) Offers Fault-tolerant Fiber
Connectivity

The 10BF-FTR module is Racal's solution to building fault-tolerant
fiber-optic backbones for Ethernet LANs. Users gain the benefits of fiber
cabling, including better security, greater immunity from noise
interference and the ability to propagate signals for greater distances
without regeneration. Racal's unique built-in filtering and SNMP
management give customers greater flexibility in network design and
management, with the added benefits and economies of fiber optic cabling.

"It's like driving off a new car lot with a BMW instead of a Yugo," says
Robert R. Becker, director of operations for Whiteco Data Corp., which
participated in beta tests of the 10BF-FTR. "The capabilities of the
filtered card from Racal are so much greater than the non-filtering card
we were using." Becker also gives high marks to the 10BF-FTR for unique
fault tolerance and automatic redundant fiber links. "The redundant links
kick in with no manual intervention, allowing us to utilize the fiber
network during off hours and holidays without incurring extra payroll
expenses. That's a major plus."

The 10BF-FTR module is a six-port repeater combining ports, management and
filtering on one card to create interconnected workgroups within the
Racal-Datacom INX5000 intelligent wiring hub. Several 10BF-PTR modules
installed in the chassis provide a high-density fiber optic repeater.
Racal expects interest among hospitals and other customers who want to
benefit from fiber's reliability and performance. List prices start at
$3795.

Network Management and Service Capability

Like all Racal-Datacom products, INTERNEXT intelligent hubs are managed by
the Racal Management System, a single, open and integrated network
management platform. The Racal CMS 400 workstation offers a client/server
implementation delivering extensive management capability and control over
both local and wide area networks. CMS 6000, also from Racal, integrates
diverse LAN/WAN technologies, including HP OpenView and IBM NetView.

The Racal-Datacom service organization also sets an industry standard. With
a national support team numbering 500 professionals, Racal offers complete
services to areas ranging from small towns to major metropolitan markets.
Services include design implementation, installation, applications
support, network monitoring, control diagnostics, spares and maintenance.
