Science Gets Hip with Hyperman

Interactive CD-ROM from IBM and Saturday Morning Cartoon from CBS Produce
Cool Science Adventures in 1995

New York, N.Y., (February 14, 1995) -- IBM Corporation and CBS Television
Network will soon bring 'The Adventures of Hyperman' to personal computers
and televisions across the country. The announcement was made at the
American International Toy Fair by Illumina Productions, Inc., the creator
of this animated cartoon that blends science education with
entertainment.

In Hyperman, kid genius Emma C. Squared -- while trying to unlock the
secret of the universe -- accidentally unleashes Entrobe and his sidekick
Kid Chaos from their extraterrestrial particle prison. With a ravenous
appetite for mischievous fun, Entrobe is bent on turning the world upside
down by altering the Earth's chemical, physical and biological properties.
Now only Hyperman, along with help from viewers and players, can save the
world from total destruction.

The new title, the anchor of IBM Multimedia Studio's "Cool Science" CD-ROM
series, is the collaboration of IBM and Illumina Productions, Inc., an
interactive developer in Oakland CA.

"We're setting new standards for providing kids with interactive,
educational adventures," said Steve Mills, IBM Software Solutions Division
general manager. "'The Adventures of Hyperman' CD-ROM uses Hollywood-style
animation and fun characters to introduce children to topics such as
ecology and light refraction. It's the ultimate science project for
children."

The interactive Hyperman CD-ROM, will ship in April 1995. The television
show, which is being produced by Illumination Studios, Inc., a Hollywood
animation studio, is scheduled to air Saturday mornings on CBS in
September 1995. Specific time slots for the program will be announced
shortly by CBS.

"CBS is proud to offer television programming for children that offers an
innovative mix of education and entertainment," said Judy Price, CBS vice
president, Children's Programs and Daytime Specials. "'The Adventures of
Hyperman' is an excellent example of combining the best minds in
Hollywood, the Silicon Valley and academia, to create an animated series
driven by character comedy that introduces children to science through
humor."

'The Adventures of Hyperman' CD-ROM gives viewers and players first-hand
science experience by allowing them to:

- Enter a real Hollywood-style cartoon with zany characters and
  funny adventures.
- Learn about wind currents and thermal properties as they pilot
  a hot-air balloon.
- Use the principles of leverage and trajectory to operate a
medieval catapult to send cows flying to the moon.
- Explore genetic and evolutionary principles to create mutations
  in an interactive terrarium.
- Use light wave properties and lenses to diffuse an ice bomb.
- Experiment with a high-powered microscope.

'The Adventures of Hyperman' CD-ROM carries a $49.95 suggested retail
price, and requires a PC-compatible 486/25 computer, 4 MB RAM, Windows
3.1, a VGA monitor, a SoundBlaster-compatible audio card, 2 MB of hard
disk space, a double-speed CD-ROM drive and a mouse. The title will be
available on OS/2 Warp later this year.

The IBM Multimedia Studio, part of the IBM Software Solutions Division, was
established in January 1993 to develop and distribute CD-ROM software for
the home consumer market.
