CONNECTICUT DATA SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO RELEASE FILECAT

Rocky Hill, CT, January 15, 1995 - Connecticut Data Systems has announced
the upcoming release of its new Windows file organizer, FILECAT, on
February 1, 1995. FILECAT is a File Tracking Tool for Individuals and
Workgroups which helps PC users to manage and organize files for easy
retrieval.

FILECAT allows the user to track 5 pieces of information on each file in a
directory: The DOS filename, 3 file characteristics (i.e. contact, company
and subject) and a long text description. Using this information, the user
can quickly hunt down the files that they need regardless of the file
type. Unlike file viewers, FILECAT works equally well for all types of
files including: word-processing documents, CAD drawings, Geographic (GIS)
Data, spreadsheets, clip-art, sound bytes, database files and program
files.

FILECAT is a simple and effective file cataloging system. To locate files
using FileCat, the user simply specifies the criteria that files must meet
from 1, 2 or 3 of the file characteristic fields and/or using DOS
wildcards. FileCat returns a list of all files which meet the selection
criteria, and the user can click on individual files to read the long-
text description for each. Double-click on the filename to launch the
associated application and open the file! FileCat supports full DOS
wildcarding, and lets users select search criteria from a pull-down list
of current entries in each field.

FILECAT's unique design provides an open solution to the user's need to
classify and manage files with flexibility superior to other methods of
file management. Unlike file viewers, FILECAT's text-based approach makes
it effective with all file types. In contrast to full-blown document
management systems, FILECAT is simple to use and inexpensive. Also,
because FILECAT does not use a relational database engine, retrieving
FILECAT information is FAST! FileCat information is kept in the directory
with the files, too, so that this information can be easily shared amongst
users and diskettes.

FILECAT is flexible, too. The three attribute fields can be used for
different purposes in different directories. For example, in a directory
of correspondence with customers, the three file attributes could be
company, contact and subject, whereas in a directory of GIS files, the
fields could be region, file type and data type. FILECAT works on both
stand alone and networked personal computers. It works with floppy disks,
too!

CDS also plans to license FILECAT to providers of content and to other
software developers to bundle or integrate with their products. These
other software products include: clip-art, animations, application
developers and database providers. Imagine receiving a CD-ROM of clip art
where you can easily identify files, or a disk full of database files
clearly labeled as to their content!

FILECAT will be available beginning February 1, 1995 directly from
Connecticut Data Systems and through value added resellers with a list
price of $49.95. Special dealer and multi-user pricing is also available.
