Farallon Joins Fast Ethernet Alliance

ALAMEDA, Calif., February 20, 1995--Farallon Computing Inc., a leading
provider of innovative networking software and hardware, today announced
that the company has joined the Fast Ethernet Alliance as a full member.
The Alliance is a multivendor group focused on developing specifications
for 100 Megabit-per-second (Mbps) CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access
with Collision Detection) Ethernet technology.

The objective of the Fast Ethernet Alliance is to define and standardize
100Mbps Ethernet networking technology. The alliance has submitted the
100BASE-TX and 100BASE-T4 wiring specifications to the institute of
Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for inclusion in the IEEE's
100BASE-T standard for Fast Ethernet. By providing 10 times the speed of
existing 10BASE-T Ethernet at a cost effective rate, the 100BASE-T
standard is an ideal networking solution for bandwidth-intensive
applications operating over wide-area internetworks.

"Farallon is committed to providing networking products that are simple to
use yet innovative and powerful, and joining the Fast Ethernet Alliance
allows us to maintain our objective, as well as contribute to the
development of a networking standard that will meet the growing bandwidth
demands of our customers," stated Georganne Benesch, director of product
marketing.

Paul Sherer, chairman of the Alliance, said, "The Fast Ethernet Alliance is
pleased to welcome Farallon Computing as a new member. Broad vendor
support is critical for the successful evolution of Fast Ethernet. As a
leading vendor of easy to use, innovative networking products, Farallon
Computing's contribution to the Alliance task force will be invaluable."

The Fast Ethernet Alliance facilitates the rapid standardization of the
interoperable 100Mbps Ethernet technology by developing and proposing
specifications to the IEEE-802 and other appropriate standards
organizations for consideration. The Alliance is committed to providing
interoperable specifications for wiring structures, giving network
operators the flexibility to choose between Category 3, 4, or 5 unshielded
twisted pair, Type 1 shielded twisted pair, and fiber-optic cabling. In
addition, the multivendor group supports interoperability testing and
provides communications and information concerning 100 Mbps CSMA/CD LANs.

The Fast Ethernet Alliance now includes 60+ members. All Alliance members
have demonstrated LAN expertise and expressed commitment to contribute on
a technical basis and promote the interoperable 100Mbps CSMA/CD in the
public and standard arenas.
