DATA GENERAL ANNOUNCES DATAGENIE HANDHELD COMPUTER

Simplifies Data Collection for Mobile Professionals

WESTBORO, Mass., January 31, 1995 -- Data General Corporation today
announced the newest member of its family of handheld computers,
DataGenie, a low-cost, durable, lightweight data collection device that
allows mobile professionals to collect, enter and access data and system
information in the palm of their hand.

"More and more, customers are demanding tough, affordable, and low- cost
hand-held computers to make data collection more efficient for mobile
professions," said Michael Schneider, vice president, Data General.
"DataGenie has a true price/performance advantage. It offers powerful
features and true portability for a low cost, helping mobile professionals
collect and use data more efficiently."

Users can download data from a host computer directly to the DataGenie
computer before going into the field, making current information available
for mobile applications. After information is collected, mobile
professionals can use DataGenie on the spot to compare, compute or graph
results. Users can also upload the data to the host computer, through an
RS-232 connection, either directly or through a telephone link.

The product is an ergonomically designed, water-resistant, rugged computer
suitable for use in tough environments. Using four standard AA batteries,
DataGenie offers 200 hours of battery life (actual usage), the longest
power uptime available in the industry.

include barcode scanners, printers and other RS-232 devices. The product
is immediately available, at a list price of $745, for end users, OEMs,
VARs and systems integrators.
