DELL TO BRING ENHANCED PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY TO DELL POWEREDGE
SERVERS

New Serial Storage Architecture offers an open industry standard for
unparalleled connection between computers and peripheral products

AUSTIN, Texas, February 13, 1995 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:
DELL) today announced support for the Serial Storage Architecture Industry
Association (SSA IA) and the new technology, Serial Storage Architecture
(SSA), an open standard for connecting computers to peripheral products.
SSA technology offers fast data throughput and a high level of fault
tolerance making SSA-connected peripherals extremely high in performance
and reliability.

"In our continued effort to broaden our array of server products, Dell is
proud to be at the forefront of supporting Serial Storage Architecture,
the next generation of high performance storage technology," said Mark
Garver, vice president of Dell's advanced systems group. "SSA provides an
open standard for developing the next level of intelligent connections
between Dell servers and the strategic devices that interface with them
and is consistent with Dell's strategy of providing highly reliable,
industry standard server products."

SSA is planned to bring faster performance, higher reliability and
increased functionality to Dell PowerEdge server products. SSA technology
will have built-in redundancy and will provide high performance with
transfer rates of up to 80 megabytes per second. In addition, SSA
technology will allow Dell PowerEdge customers to connect up to 127
devices such as hard drives, tape back-up devices, CD-ROMs and other
peripherals, to a single storage controller channel giving them
flexibility and scalability in their existing server investment.

"Dell is a founding member of the SSA Industry Association and plans to
continue to support its SSA standard because it fits with our model for
delivering open standard advanced technology that meets the requirements
of Dell customers," said Garver.

DEFINING SERIAL STORAGE ARCHITECTURE

Serial Storage Architecture is a standard set of protocols and components
designed to provide a faster and more reliable method of connecting disk
drives, tape drives, CD-ROMs, optical drives, scanners and other
peripherals to desktop PCs, servers and storage subsystems. Designed
specifically to meet the requirements of a wide variety of storage and
peripheral products, each SSA device can independently 'talk to' all of
the other devices in the chain. In the event an SSA connection fails, the
system continues to operate, an important improvement over earlier
technologies such as SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) where the
failure of a single connection could cause the entire system to fail. As a
result, SSA will offer a significant advantage over existing SCSI
technology in data integrity, speed of transmission, reliability and fault
isolation.

Dell expects to offer SSA technology first with its line of PC servers.

A Fortune Global 500 company, Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL)
designs, develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports a complete
line of personal computers compatible with industry standards. Dell is the
world's leading direct marketer of personal computers and one of the top
five personal computer vendors in the world with annual revenues of nearly
$3 billion. Information on the company and its products can be obtained
through its toll-free number, 1-800-BUY-DELL (1-800-289-3355) or by
accessing the Dell Worldwide Web server, at http://www.us.dell.com/.

The Serial Storage Architecture Industry Association (SSA IA) was formed in
January 1995 to promote and enable the proliferation of SSA technology.
The SSA IA offers an "unparalleled connection," encourages industry
awareness, acceptance, and advancement of SSA technologies, and fosters
SSA inter-operability. The SSA IA also provides a forum for industry
discussion of SSA and its implementations and encourages cooperation
between the computer and storage industries to provide better products for
end users. Membership, educational, and promotional materials are
available from the SSA IA by calling (408) 256-5656.
