DELL ENHANCES SERVER MANAGEMENT APPLICATION

New suite offers comprehensive LAN server management

AUSTIN, Texas, January 31, 1995 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL)
today announced the immediate availability of the Dell Server Management
package, providing customers with comprehensive server and network
management capabilities. The Dell Server Management package allows network
administrators to keep track of the major components of the network, such
as the server and the PCs on the network, and to "look inside" the network
to identify potential problems and correct them before they occur. If a
problem does occur, the advanced technology features of the package not
only send out an alert, but also allow the administrator to remotely
connect to the network to correct the problem.

The Dell offering integrates Dell SafeSite server management software with
the just announced Intel LANDesk Management Suite v. 2.0. for use with the
Dell PowerEdge line of multiprocessing servers. The new package is the
result of a cooperative engineering agreement between Dell and Intel to
provide network administrators with unparalleled control and management of
PC networks.

"We evaluated a number of local area network (LAN) management suites and
chose Intel's LANDesk Management Suite as the best product to be
integrated with our SafeSite server management product," said Mark Garver,
vice president of Dell's advanced systems group. "Intel and Dell together
engineered these products to provide our customers with a comprehensive
server management package including a superior alert management system and
the ability to manage both the network server as well as the other nodes
connected to the network. These features provide customers with management
tools that are well beyond the norm among leading PC server providers."

"In teaming with Dell our goal was to provide a PC network management
solution that would meet our customer's network management needs," said
Mike Maerz, vice president, Intel Products Group, general manager, Intel's
Network Products Division. "The end result offers the best combination of
the core capabilities of Dell and Intel."

DELL SERVER MANAGEMENT

The Dell Server Management package includes Dell SafeSite, a Dell
engineered, Windows-based server management tool designed to "snap into"
Intel's LANDesk Management Suite -- a network management software suite
which helps network administrators more efficiently manage and control all
the systems and components on the local network. Features include:

Dell PowerEdge monitoring and alerting to provide the network administrator
with server management capabilities including:

A drive array performance monitor to give the network administrator the
status and performance of the Dell SCSI Array (DSA) subsystem, the hard
drives attached to the DSA controller.

A temperature monitor. Through the use of component-specific thermal
probes, the network administrator has the ability to monitor thermal
integrity within the server, preventing downtime due to potential
overheating.

A power supply monitor. Individual power circuits are monitored so that the
administrator is able to take corrective action should power integrity be
threatened.

A server status to provide the network administrator with a management tool
that tracks and graphs more than one hundred server parameters including:
CPU utilization, memory utilization, cache buffers used, NIC status, and
drive status, with the ability to graph and alert the network manager to
threshold overruns.

A performance monitor to provide the network administrator with customized
monitoring and analysis of application server usage and performance.

A traffic monitor to enable the network administrator to view, analyze and
compare traffic on the entire network or on individually-specified
servers, assisting in the task of load balancing traffic on the LAN.

An alert management system which allows the network administrator to define
alert conditions which when triggered will evoke a robust response of
pre-programmed alerting options including on-screen alerting, fax
alerting, paging alert, paging alerts to more than one location, and the
ability to execute applications at the time of an alert.

A desktop manager feature gives the network administrator complete control
of any server console on the network with a remote control capability from
any node on the network. The desktop manager feature also provides a
comprehensive report on a server's assets for better inventory and
configuration management.

A mobile network administration feature which gives the network
administration staff the ability to login from any available desktop on
the LAN, anywhere, anytime, optimizing the mobility of the technician.

Dell Server Management provides a powerful means of proactively managing
not just the server, but all the local network assets using a single
powerful suite of management tools.

"Running networked mission critical applications without the management of
all the server and network attributes is risky," said John Dunkle,
president of Workgroup Technologies, a New Hampshire-based industry
research firm. "What Dell is offering in their alliance with Intel is an
expansion in server and network management capabilities and a strategic
advantage for those customers who choose Dell as their server platform for
running LAN-based high availability applications. Through this alliance
Dell and Intel lead the industry in providing a level of network
management tuning and server management by which the competition should be
measured. We don't think there are any competitors offering this feature
set who will be able to measure up."

Available immediately from Dell, Dell Server Management is offered starting
at $499 (U.S. suggested list) and will run on all existing Dell PowerEdge
servers running Novell Netware.
