DIGITAL EXPANDS LINE OF STORAGEWORKS TAPE SUBSYSTEMS TO ADDITIONAL UNIX AND
PC NETWORK ENVIRONMENTS

Digital's Storage Business Unit Also Announces Extended Third Party
Software Management Support

MAYNARD, Mass. -- February 21, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
expanded its line of multivendor tape backup solutions by announcing
expanded support for Sun, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Windows NT, Novell and
Digital computing platforms. Digital now offers seamless integration of 4
mm DDS2, 8 mm and Digital Linear Tape (DLT) technologies that can be mixed
and matched in any StorageWorks enclosure with other StorageWorks devices,
including disk and CD-ROM drives, across the multivendor environment.

Also today, Arcada Software and Legato Systems, Inc. separately announced
software management support for StorageWorks tape subsystems. Arcada
Backup Exec now supports all StorageWorks tape drives and autoloaders for
both Alpha and Intel based Windows NT, as well as Novell NetWare. Legato
NetWorker now supports most StorageWorks tape drives on Sun Solaris,
SunOS, Novell NetWare, and IBM AIX. Earlier this year, Legato Systems and
Digital announced new functionality and new clientside archiving support
for POLYCENTER NetWorker Save and Restore for DEC OSF/1 Alpha.

"These new StorageWorks tape offerings reflect our commitment to support
users in as many environments as possible with reliable and high
performing tape backup solutions," stated Paul Feresten, vice president of
sales and marketing for Digital's Storage Business Unit. "Our customers
are increasingly operating in multivendor environments and are demanding
flexible storage solutions with cross-platform capabilities. And because
storage management software is integral to successful data management,
we're working aggressively to ensure partnerships are in place with
industry-leading software providers to support StorageWorks products."
Feresten added that new support from Arcada and Legato complements
existing partnerships with Cheyenne and Palindrome.
