COMPAQ INCREASES VALUE, FUNCTIONALITY AND FLEXIBILITY OF LTE ELITE WITH
SMARTSTATION PROMOTION -- BUNDLE OFFERS $700 VALUE WITH SELECT MODELS

HOUSTON, January 31, 1995 -- Delivering on its commitment to provide higher
value and flexibility to its customers, Compaq Computer Corporation
(NYSE:CPQ) today announced a new three-month value promotion that includes
the bundling of the innovative Compaq SmartStation desktop expansion unit
with either of two models of its award-winning LTE Elite notebook PC
family representing a $700 value.

An expansion option for these two powerful notebooks, the SmartStation will
now be offered free-of-charge with the LTE Elite 4/50CX and 4/75CX so
customers can easily convert their notebook computers into network-ready
desktop units and gain instant access to external peripherals such as a
pointing device, keyboard and monitor. The three-month promotion begins
February 1 and continues through April 30.

"Compaq continues to look for ways to increase the value of our products
for our customers," said Ross Cooley, senior vice president for Compaq
North America. "With this announcement, we're providing mobile
professionals with an exceptional value package in our high quality, high
performance notebook family."

The LTE Elite family has won numerous awards, including PC World's 1994
"Best Buy" award for power notebooks and PC Laptop's 1994/95 Editor's
Choice Award for World Class Technology.

The Compaq LTE Elite offers versatility in the choice of features, options
and portability for today's power notebook users, both on the road and in
the office. It features the industry's first built-in AC adapter in a full
function notebook, thus eliminating the cumbersome AC adapter brick and
cables formerly necessary for mobile users, without adding additional
weight to the notebook. At 6.8 pounds, the Compaq LTE Elite provides
customers with the lowest total carrying weight of any full function
notebook computer.

The Compaq SmartStation delivers the ultimate Plug and Play convenience for
hassle-free computing. In the office, the Compaq SmartStation's Plug and
Play functionality lets users dock their notebooks even while turned on,
and its VCR-style motorized latching mechanism assures secure docking.
Should the user try to undock the notebook while applications are open,
sensors send an alert to prevent data loss.

The Compaq SmartStation gives customers full function desktop capability,
including built-in Ethernet and SCSI connections, two full-sized ISA
slots, two half-height drive bays, 1024x768 video connects and a built-in
spare battery charger compartment -- all in one unit.
