ATTACHMATE COMPLETES MERGER WITH DCA, LAUNCHES STRATEGIC BUSINESS
INITIATIVES

BELLEVUE, Wash. - January 12, 1995 -- Attachmate Corporation and Digital
Communications Associates, Inc., today announced the completion of a
merger that has created the world's seventh-largest personal computer
software company. The merger was effective December 31, 1994.

The combined entity, which will operate as Attachmate Corporation, expects
to exceed $450 million in revenues during its first full year of
operations. Already management of the company has taken significant steps
to enhance Attachmate's role in the software industry and build on its
strong financial base, said James D. Lindner, president and chief
operating officer of the new company. Those steps include:

** Appointment of a team of five top executives from senior management
staffs of both Attachmate and DCA which will have responsibility for all
the companys operations and will report directly to Lindner;

** Reallocation of personnel to eliminate job redundancies, focus sharply
on the company's core business and apply resources to global markets and
growth opportunities;

** Expansion of product offerings to provide customers of both companies
with the best available technology and world-class support.

"Our merger makes a great deal of sense," said Lindner, who served as
president, chairman and CEO of DCA prior to the merger. "This new company
combines the management strengths, product potency and personnel energy
and expertise of Attachmate and DCA. We have created in this merger a
leading industry force that has the resources and financial strength to
provide customers around the world with the most comprehensive range of
quality products, service and support."

Frank Pritt, the founder of Attachmate who now serves as chairman and chief
executive officer, said he has received nothing but positive feedback
about the merger from customers, resellers and industry/financial
analysts.

"I think the connectivity industry was ready for a clear leader to emerge
with the ability to set the standard," Pritt said. "This merger was the
right thing to do."

Until the merger, Attachmate and DCA competed head to head for shares of
several market segments, particularly those involving software for
communications between different types of computers and computer networks.
Recently, International Data Corporation, the Framingham, Mass. market
research and consulting firm, estimated that the combined company enjoys a
34.6 percent share of the $810 million PC-to-IBM mainframe connectivity
software market. Attachmate also has a 40.7 percent share of the market
for communications between PCs running Microsoft Windows and IBM host
computers. In addition, Attachmate's Unisys products group is the leader
in connectivity solutions between PCs and Unisys host computers. These
statistics demonstrate that Attachmate holds the largest share of its
industry sector market.

Jeffrey Tarter, editor and publisher of Soft*letter, the Watertown,
Mass.-based software industry newsletter that tracks technology trends and
company activities, projects from 1994 revenues of Attachmate and DCA that
the merger will create the seventh-largest personal computer software
company in the world.

"This merger combines both product line and business synergy, creating a
broader, more extensive offering for our customers," said John Shagoury,
vice president of supplier relations at Norwood, Mass.-based Corporate
Software, Inc., a leading reseller of Attachmate products. "We believe the
new Attachmate organization will continue to realize significant sales
growth through our company."

Paul Barber, an investment banker with Alex. Brown & Sons, a
Baltimore-based investment bank, said that in any merger, the new
management must act quickly, decisively and thoughtfully to execute
business strategies and take steps that are necessary to make the business
profitable. "So far in this merger," he said, "the Attachmate management
team is taking the appropriate steps."

Attachmate and DCA agreed to merge in November 1994. Pritt and Lindner
immediately created teams of top executives in the company to develop
plans to combine operations and improve efficiencies. In the new
organization, five executive vice presidents were appointed from the ranks
of both companies. They are:

* Geoff Revelle, executive vice president, operations and finance,
who also will serve as general counsel.
* Barry Horn, executive vice president, worldwide sales and marketing.
* Joyce Jones, executive vice president, enterprise clients and tool
  products.
* Larry Zito, executive vice president, client/server products and
  services.
* Paul Rodwick, executive vice president for Unisys products.

All of the executive vice presidents will work out of the Attachmate
Bellevue headquarters, except for Rodwick, who will be based in
Cincinnati, where Attachmates Unisys product operations reside. Attachmate
will also maintain a significant presence in Alpharetta, Ga., where DCA's
corporate headquarters was located.

Attachmate will continue to offer and enhance, through future development
efforts, its own products -- including its EXTRA!, RALLY!, KEA! and
SELECT! lines -- as well as those products previously offered under the
DCA name. Some of these products include Irma PC-to-host communications
software, CROSSTALK, Remote LAN Node (RLN) and OpenMind. Both companies
had achieved significant brand recognition for their connectivity product
lines prior to the merger. Attachmate will now possess the broadest and
deepest product line offerings in the connectivity industry giving
customers a new range of technology and support choices.

Attachmate also will launch aggressive plans to capitalize on international
markets, building on previous successes abroad, particularly in the
important European markets.
