Apple Extends Home Learning Line with Introduction of Earth Explorer
The Multimedia Encyclopedia of the Environment

WASHINGTON D.C.--February 23, 1995--Continuing its tradition of making
education and learning enjoyable, Apple Computer, Inc. today introduced
Earth Explorer, a comprehensive, interactive multimedia tour of the
environment for children ages ten and up. With this CD-ROM based
multimedia title, children can learn about the natural and human forces
affecting the Earth through a variety of informational and exploratory
activities.

Earth Explorer contains hundreds of lively articles illustrated with
graphics and movies, simulations based on actual data, animations that
explain basic environmental concepts, and games that both challenge and
amuse. The product cultivates childrens' critical thinking by encouraging
them to recognize the connections among climatic, biological, and human
systems, and uses case examples to illustrate these relationships and
dramatize the excitement of science in daily life. Earth Explorer's
interactive design makes the software easy to use and an indispensable
learning tool for many age groups.

To bring Earth Explorer to the home learning market, Apple has worked with
Enteractive, Inc., an award-winning multimedia developer. Enteractive,
Inc. developed the software in cooperation with the American Association
for the advancement of Science (AAAS) and with support from the National
Science Foundation (NSF).

"Due to Apple's strong commitment to the environment, Earth Explorer was
the obvious choice to be the second product in Apple's Home Learning
Line," said Guerrino De Luca, vice president of Apple's sales and
marketing AppleSoft division. "Children of all ages will benefit from the
wealth of information and engaging activities Earth Explorer offers."

"Earth Explorer is outstanding, wondrous, and fundamentally mind-
expanding," said Dr. Michael Robinson, Director of the National Zoological
Park. "I wish that I had been exposed to Earth Explorer when I was young.
It would have eliminated years of tedious searching for the facts of life
on earth. This is a glimpse of the future face of limitless
education...and it works."

Earth Explorer is the second product in the Apple Home Learning line of
educational software for Mac OS- and Windows-based personal computers. In
cooperation with companies such as Enteractive and Scholastic, Inc., Apple
Home Learning's curriculum-focused, CD-ROM products build bridges between
school and home, bringing teachers and parents together to improve
education. Products such as Earth Explorer and WiggleWorks incorporate the
best of classroom experience, engage children to learn actively, and
involve parents in their children's learning.

Earth Explorer is also available in a special teachers edition for use in
classroom situations. The Earth Explorer Teachers Edition includes a
comprehensive teachers guide that provides additional support to teachers
who are integrating environmental studies into their curriculum.
