Pioneer to License Apple's Mac OS for the Company's First Personal
Computers

TOKYO, Japan/CUPERTINO, California-- February 15, 1995--Pioneer Electronics
Corporation announced today that it has reached an agreement with Apple
Computer, Inc. to license the Mac OS for use in Pioneer's new line of
personal computers. Pioneer will introduce its A/V (audio/visual) personal
computers into the market with the aim of integrating its A/V products
into these new personal computers.

"It is our great pleasure to announce that we have reached a license
agreement with Apple Computer, Inc., the world famous computer company,"
said Kanya Matsumoto, vice president, Pioneer Electronics Corporation.
"This agreement is tremendously significant for Pioneer and marks our
entry into the A/V personal computer market and the coming multimedia age.
We believe that our collaboration with Apple will enable us to create a
new type of home entertainment through the integration of our personal
computers and high-quality A/V products."

Pioneer has been developing a number of innovative laser optical products
such as the LaserDisc, based on its corporate aim to create and provide
customers with high-quality entertainment. For the coming multimedia age,
Pioneer believes that the integration of A/V peripheral products and
computers is essential. Through a study of which operating system is the
most suitable for consumer electronics products, Pioneer has chosen
Apple's Mac OS because of its operating ease, reliability and brand
image.

Pioneer plans to create a new market with its unique computer that will
integrate A/V peripherals and desktop computers. This integration takes
full advantage of the company's extensive experience in the A/V and
optical disc fields. Pioneer currently produces the industry's fastest
CD-ROM drive (4.4 x speed) and an ultra high capacity magneto-optical
drive (2.2 gigabytes).

"We are very pleased to have Pioneer join the emerging family of Mac OS
licensees," said Don Strickland, vice president of Mac OS licensing for
Apple Computer. "With Pioneer's reputation for creating state-of-the-art
A/V and home entertainment systems, the company is well positioned to
integrate these features into personal computers that will address
specific customer needs. The flexibility and power of the Macintosh
operating system enables Pioneer to provide complete home entertainment
solutions to today's multimedia-centric personal computer customer."

"The announcement is great news for consumers as Pioneer is adeptly
equipped to offer unique, personalized computing solutions to the home
entertainment market," said Seiji Sanda, president, Apple Japan. "This
licensing agreement will make the Mac platform available to an even wider
range of customers than before."
