Apple and FUJIFILM Announce Agreement to Develop FireWire (IEEE P1394) Chip
Set For Multimedia Applications

FujiFilm Adopts Breakthrough IEEE P1394 Technology

SENDAI, Japan/CUPERTINO, California--February 7, 1995--FUJIFILM
Microdevices Co., Ltd.(FFM), a subsidiary of Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd. and
Apple Computer, Inc. announced today that FFM is licensed to develop
products that support Apple Computer's FireWire technology, based on the
IEEE P1394 High Speed Serial Bus interface.

The IEEE P1394 standard is the first industrial and consumer standard that
makes it practical to put a digital interface on consumer products like a
camera. FFM FireWire chip sets will make it easy to "hot plug" a camera
into a printer, storage device, computer or other multimedia product.

For example, a user with a digital camera and computer containing future
FFM chip sets could download pictures from the camera into the computer
for editing 500 times faster than possible with current input/output
connections. Or, a notebook computer with a future FFM chip set could
control an entire digital sound studio.

Apple's new FireWire technology, based on the emerging IEEE P1394 standard,
enables high speed isochronous* or real time data transfers at more than
100Mbps and the "plug and play" addition of multimedia devices.

"The FFM chip sets will make it convenient for audio and imaging
manufacturers to join the digital revolution. This cooperative effort
between Apple and FFM will make photography and sound recording easier for
everyone," said Jonathan Zar, Business Manager, Apple's New Media Group.

"We are expecting that FireWire technology will provide a revolutionary
solution to the emerging home multimedia market in addition to the PC
market for high speed and easy-to-use interfacing and networking of
various digital video, audio, printer and storage devices," said Kazuyuki
Masukane, Manager of VLSI Design Department of FFM.

Headquartered in Sendai Industrial Park, Japan, FFM is dedicated to design,
manufacture, and marketing of electronic imaging LSI products such as high
resolution CCD image sensors, digital image compression or video
processing LSI, and Flash memory products including PCMCIA cards. As a
fully authorized FireWire licensee, FFM will support the IEEE 1394 Serial
Bus architecture and will focus on the development of semiconductor
products optimized for consumer electronics and multimedia such as digital
video cameras, printers and audio systems.

Apple Computer, Inc., a recognized pioneer and innovator in the information
industry, creates powerful solutions based on easy to use personal
computers, servers, peripherals, software, online services, and personal
digital assistants. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Apple
(NASDAQ:AAPL) develops, manufactures, licenses and markets products,
technologies and services for the business, education, consumer,
scientific & engineering and government markets in over 140 countries.

*Isochronous means equal, or having uniform duration in time or recurring
at regular intervals in time.
