XANTE ANNOUNCES ACCEL-A-WRITER 812 - NEW LOW COST, HIGH RESOLUTION LASER
PRINTER WITH ADOBE POSTSCRIPT

JANUARY 3,1995, MOBILE, AL -- XANTE Corporation introduces the
Accel-a-Writer 812, the only true Adobe PostScript, 1200 x 1200 dpi laser
printer specifically designed for the desktop. In addition to its high
resolution and PostScript capabilities, this printer is also affordably
priced at only $3,495.

The Accel-a-Writer 812 is based on Canon's 8 page-per-minute LBP-EX print
engine and includes a high speed 33 MHz AMD 29030 RISC processor. With a
standard 16 MB RAM, upgradable to 64 MB, this printer provides high
performance capabilities to handle any work load.

In addition to increased performance and 1200 x 1200 dpi, the
Accel-a-Writer 812 also supports a user-selectable 600 x 600 dpi draft
mode.

"The Accel-a-Writer 812 is an affordable solution to high quality, high
performance desktop printing," said XANTE' s vice president of marketing
and international sales, Martin Kennedy. "This printer is the only desktop
printer on the market today that offers the benefits of true Adobe
PostScript and 1200 x 1200 dpi - and at such an aggressive price. Users
can produce high resolution A-size documents and brochures at a price that
will fit easily into their budget. The Accel-a-Writer 812 sets a new
standard for impressive, affordable high resolution printing."

Handling paper sizes up to 8.5" x 14", the Accel-a-Writer 812 ships
standard with an input capacity of 350 sheets from two trays and an output
capacity of 250 sheets. An optional third tray is available and can be
configured to hold as many as 500 sheets.

The Accel-a-Writer 812 supports XANTE's Halftone Calibration Technology,
enabling users to adjust the gamma curve of scanned images, gray scales,
and other halftones when printing. This feature enables users to calibrate
the lightness of halftone images, bringing out detail that can be lost
when printing at higher line screens or when dark photos have been
scanned.

In conjunction with XANTE's Halftone Calibration Technology, the
Accel-a-Writer 812 also includes an enhanced screening feature. The user
is able to select the normal (default) screen or the enhanced screens at
106, 120, or 140 lines per inch providing 40% more levels of gray. This is
a definite benefit when working in graphics applications which do not
allow changes to the line screen of images from within the program itself.
Changes to the enhanced screening or Halftone Calibration Technology
settings are made easily from the printer's front panel or via software
printer setup.

PRINTER FEATURES

Adobe PostScript Level 2 Software - The Accel-a-Writer 812 offers the
reliability, assurance of compatibility, and high performance provided by
Adobe PostScript Level 2 software. PostScript Level 2 software ensures
several benefits, including enhanced file and memory management schemes,
data compression, forms support, pattern caching, and composite font
support.

High Resolution - The XANTE Accel-a-Writer 812 provides 1200 x 1200 dpi
resolution for high quality text and line art, as well as clean, crisp
gray scales that can be used for camera-ready reproduction. A
user-selectable 600 x 600 dpi draft mode is also included.

Halftone Calibration Technology - The Accel-a-Writer 812 allows the user to
adjust the gamma curve of halftones easily from the printer's front panel.
This feature enables users to calibrate the lightness of halftone images,
bringing out detail that can be lost when printing at higher line screens
or when dark photos have been scanned.

Enhanced Screening Capabilities - XANTE' s enhanced screening allows the
user to further fine tune the output quality by providing 40% more levels
of gray when enabled. Enhanced screening allows the user to select from
the normal (default) or the enhanced screens defined by 145,197, or 256
levels of gray using the printer's front panel or via software printer
setup.

Paper Handling - The Accel-a-Writer 812 supports two input sources in its
base configuration. A fold-down tray offers a 100 sheet input capacity
which supports paper sizes up to 8.5" x 14". The second source is a paper
tray which supports 250-sheet letter or A4 sizes. An optional third input
source is available and can be configured to hold up to 500 sheets up to
8.5" x 14".

HP PCL 5, HP-GL 7475A, and Automatic Emulation Switching - The
Accel-a-Writer 812 ships with HP PCL 5 and HP-GL 7475A emulations for
CAD/CAE and other applications that do not currently support the
PostScript language. HP-GL plots can be printed at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi.
Also included is resident code that allows automatic switching between HP
PCL 5 and the PostScript language.

High Performance Controller Architecture - For high performance printing,
XANTE has designed this printer' s controller with the AMD 29030,33 MHz
RISC processor and 16 MB RAM. The Accel-a-Writer 812 is upgradable to 64
MB with user-installable SIMM modules.

Simultaneous Interfacing- RS-232 serial, Centronics Parallel, and AppleTalk
interfaces are included and can all be active simultaneously for seamless,
cross platform support. Ethernet running concurrently active EtherTalk and
TCP/IP protocols is available as an option. A standard SCSI interface
supports external disk connection for additional font and form storage.

Font Handling - In addition to providing 35 standard PostScript resident
typefaces, XANTE includes support for TrueType fonts and Adobe's Type l
downloadable fonts.

TARGET MARKETS & APPLICATIONS

The Accel-a-Writer 812 is targeted toward both large and small companies
that require high resolution output, fast processing times, and cross
platform support at an affordable price.

The growing desktop publishing industry is a large market for this product,
encompassing areas such as advertising agencies, service bureaus, and
other graphic design companies. The Accel-a-Writer 812 ' s print quality
greatly improves newsletters, documentation, product brochures, and other
forms of literature normally sent outside the company, thus often
eliminating the necessity of out-of-house printing. The high quality
images produced on the Accel-a-Writer 812 enables users to print
camera-ready artwork, including smooth text, line art, and detailed
scanned and other halftone images.

Engineering environments benefit from the higher resolution which provides
finer, sharper detail so that small print can be more easily read and
understood. For engineering applications that do not support the
PostScript language, the Accel-a-Writer 812 supports the HP-GL 7475A
emulation at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi.

High performance is achieved with XANTE' s RISC processor and RAM
configurations which allow graphic and text intensive documents to be
printed with fast processing speeds. Also, the Accel-a-Writer 812's
interface flexibility is a major advantage for those users working with a
mixture of Macintosh, PCs, UNIX, and other workstation environments. Using
XANTE' s Accel-a-Writer 812 saves both time and money on outside printing
costs with the flexibility necessary for today' s desktop publishing
needs.
