OS/2 Warp Worldwide Shipments Reach One Million

SYDNEY, Australia, Jan. 18, 1995 . . . IBM announced that OS/2 Warp has
shipped more than 1 million copies worldwide since its availability in
November 1994, at a press conference here today.

"It's exciting to see the momentum," said Dan Lautenbach, vice president of
IBM's Personal Software Products division. "OS/2 Warp has been a big
seller in retail markets around the world, topping software sales charts
during the holiday season in several countries. What's more, we're seeing
return rates running at less than one tenth of a percent, which attests to
the product's high quality."

IBM also announced today that Australia's largest PC manufacturer, Osborne,
will standardize on an IBM software platform for their entire PC line.
Effective immediately, Osborne will ship IBM PC DOS* and OS/2 Warp as the
standard PC operating system platform, replacing Microsoft DOS and Windows
for Workgroups 3.11**. Today's agreement follows recent announcements from
German PC vendors Vobis, Escom and Comtech to preload OS/2 Warp on their
PCs. Together these companies' sales account for more than 40 percent of
the German PC market. OS/2 Warp is also preloaded on IBM PC Company's PC
300, 700, ThinkPad 360 and 755C as well as systems built by CompuAdd,
Toshiba, and others.

IBM also cited the following to illustrate OS/2 Warp's worldwide momentum.

  * More than 13,000 licenses of IBM's OS/2 LAN Server 4.0 were
shipped in the first three months of availability. According
to a recent IDC Market Share Data report, IBM shipped more
network operating system licenses through the first three
quarters of 1994 than throughout all of 1993.
  * Corel Systems Corporation, developers of CorelDRAW, recently
announced plans to support the OS/2 Warp platform, with plans
to put a major effort into the development of 32-bit
applications for OS/2 Warp, including CorelCD Office.
  * Hewlett-Packard's Colorado Memory Systems division recently
announced a new addition to its family of tape backup
software programs--Colorado Backup for OS/2, which provides
fast, reliable tape backup for OS/2 users.
  * Novell recently announced the availability of the NetWare
Client version 2.11 for OS/2. The new Client supports IBM's
OS/2 Warp, as well as OS/2 versions 2.1 and 2.11.
  * The February 1995 UK edition of Computer Shopper reports that
OS/2 Warp leads its list of top PC Software Sales for the
month of December as compiled by Software Paradise. In the
January U.S. edition, readers voted OS/2 "Best Buy for
Operating Systems" for the second year in a row.
  * This month, PC Magazine reports that, following its release,
OS/2 Warp was second only to Intuit's Headstart Turbo Tax
Federal '94 program on the Top Retail Software charts as
    compiled by Ingram Micro.
  * Software Spectrum, a large U.S. corporate reseller, reported
that OS/2 Warp was the third largest seller among its
    software titles in November.
  * Since the product launched in October, more than 3,800
reseller locations in the U.S. have enrolled in OS/2 Warp
Awareness and Technical Training sessions from IBM. More than
11,000 dealer employees have attended OS/2 Warp training
    sessions.
  * Orders are brisk for "Why Wait? Sell OS/2," an OS/2 Warp
sales-training video produced by IBM for resellers and
dealers. Nearly 1,600 copies were ordered in one week alone,
bringing the total videos distributed to 38,000.

OS/2 Warp is the third generation of IBM's award-winning 32-bit operating
system.

It features impressive new usability features, slimmed-down memory
requirements and comes with a BonusPak of more than a dozen exploitive
OS/2 applications, including easy access to Internet and CompuServe.
