ODS to Participate in Win of ULANA II Contract - One of the Largest
Government Networking Contracts Ever Awarded

In an agreement with EDS' Military Systems Division, ODS will be included
as an approved networking vendor for the Department of Defense and other
federal agencies

Richardson, TX--January 9, 1995--Today, Optical Data Systems, Inc. (ODS),
(NASDAQ-NMS:ODSI) announced that it will participate on a multi-year
contract to provide networking hardware and software as well as associated
engineering and support services to the Department of Defense and other
federal government agencies. ODS will provide a number of intelligent hub
solutions including hubs, Ethernet modules, FDDI modules, ATM switch
modules, router modules, and bridge modules for local and wide area
networks in support of this contract through an agreement with the
Military Systems division of EDS.

The Unified Local Area Network Architecture II (ULANA II) contract was
awarded to EDS by the Air Force Communications Systems Center at Tinker
Air Force Base (AFB) in Oklahoma City with an announced value of $297.1
million dollars for the next two years. Provisions for a possible
three-year extension are included in the contract representing an
undisclosed dollar figure. The contract is an indefinite
delivery/indefinite quantity contract.

ULANA II networks will support a wide range of users in the areas of
command and control, office automation, finance, inventory, engineering
and training.

"This contract will provide the necessary components for the federal
government to build quality, high-end networks," said Joe Head, Senior
Vice President at ODS.

The ULANA II contract will use a variety of commercial products and
services to establish a foundation for improved networking on a worldwide
basis," pointed out EDS Program Manager Gary Miller. "Over 600-plus
products from over seventy industry leaders will be used to meet the
government's requirements."

Hardware available under the contract includes: routers; bridges; hubs;
gateways; computer interfaces; transceivers; communications servers;
cables; connectors; protocol analyzers; interactive desktop video devices;
and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switches. An approved product list
will be published after all components are tested at Fort Huachuca,
Arizona and Scott AFB, Illinois. The testing phase will last from
three-to-six months and will begin immediately.
