Ventana and Spyglass Partner

Agreement enables best-selling publisher to integrate Enhanced Mosaic with
new products

Chapel Hill, N.C., January 9, 1995--Ventana Communications Group, publisher
of the best-selling Internet Membership Kit and Mosaic Quick Tour, today
announced the signing of a licensing agreement with Naperville, Ill.-based
Spyglass, Inc., to distribute Enhanced Mosaic in Ventana Internet-related
product. The software is called Ventana Mosaic. Ventana will also
participate in the Spyglass "Genuine Mosaic" program, which includes
imprinting the logo on product packaging and marketing materials.

"Ventana is producing a great deal of content online," said Ventana
President Joe Woodman. "Spyglass offers a robust client for Web browsing,
and Spyglass's customized enhancements allow tight integration of the
various on- and off-line components of our products."

A single Ventana product may embrace as many as three distinct media:
print, CD-ROM or disk and online content. Since the introduction of the
Ventana World Wide Web site in the third quarter of 1994, all Ventana
print product has included an Online Companion, maintained by Ventana's
Internet publishing division, Ventana Online.

Ventana Mosaic enhances the integration of disk-based and online content
through the detection of live Internet links on a CD-ROM. The user can
browse the CD-ROM offline, and immediately go online when a hyperlink to
the Internet is selected from the CD-ROM display. Forthcoming Ventana
products taking advantage of this feature include Internet Roadside
Attractions, Walking the World Wide Web and second editions of the
best-selling Windows Internet Tour Guide and Mac Internet Tour Guide. This
feature will also be included in future Ventana Media Internet software
products.

"Ventana helped familiarize many newcomers to the Web with its excellent
documentation of the freeware version of Mosaic in Mosaic Quick Tour,"
said Douglas Colbeth, president of Spyglass. "We're excited about how
inclusion of Enhanced Mosaic in Ventana's Internet tools will enhance the
user's online experience and expand the network community."

Mosaic is the industry-standard tool for accessing the World Wide Web, a
collection of tens of thousands of graphical, "hyperlinked" information
systems on the Internet widely regarded as the backbone for online
commerce. It is a trademark of the University of Illinois.

Spyglass formed in 1990 to commercialize technology from the National
Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois, the
