IBM PC users offered Plug and Play upgrade

Communica, Inc.'s new ROM BIOS Upgrade allows the average user of IBM
Personal Computers and compatibles to take advantage of Plug and Play. The
Bourne, MA-based company's line of PnP products were demonstrated at Fall
COMDEX'94.

Having licensed the original IBM SurePath BIOS from IBM, Communica has
developed a new ROM BIOS upgrade that enables more than 100-million
existing PC and compatible users to perform their own autoconfigurations
and to gain the ease-of-use benefits available from the new PnP adapters.
System support for PnP is provided by both Microsoft's Windows 95 and
IBM's OS/2 V2.2.

The BIOS upgrade is composed of one or more EPROM chips that contains
customized SurePath firmware and full PnP support for the target computer
system. The chip set includes complete pictorial instruction for the
target system along with a pair of "chip shovels" -- inexpensive tools
that assist in the removal of the existing BIOS chip. Procedures are
designed so that non-sophisticated end users are able to install the new
BIOS easily.

Included in Communica's BIOS upgrade is ReZoom which is their version of
IBM's Smart Energy System (SES) II. This upgrade is state-save and restore
software that permits desktop computer users to suspend and resume system
operation in the same manner as is done by laptop computers. The upgrade
will be available during the first quarter with a suggested retail price
of $79.

Communica's related hardware offering is ReGreen -- an enhancement to
ReZoom that is used to retrofit EPA Energy Star functionality to existing
PCs. By detecting system inactivity, the BIOS signals Communica's external
power controller to turn off system power after saving system state for
ReZoom on power up.

Communica, Inc. is a computer design services company primarily developing
system software for the IBM Personal Computer and Windows platforms, as
well as for DOS, OS/2, Novell Netware, and the UNIX operating systems.
