Book tells how to extend computer battery life

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 20, 1995 -- Power Management That Works! is both the
title and description of a new book that will help computer designers get
maximum battery life and higher performance out of portable computers.
Written by James Bunnell, formerly of AST, Inc., the book gives guidelines
to the designer on how to categorize and handle the various components of
the system.

Bunnell begins by explaining why the early methods of power management were
doomed to failure by relying on the user to make sophisticated decisions
within BIOS setup routines. First, there are virtually no users with the
kind of knowledge and experience necessary for that purpose, and,
secondly, the proper parameters will change as any one user's applications
change. Bunnell explains how some decisions need to be made by the power
management software, starting with default settings and modifying them
(adapting) according to the user' s actions within any particular
application.

The book is small and concise, imparting, the knowledge to the engineer or
programmer quickly and efficiently. The book will also be of interest to
non-designers who want to gain an insight into the world of power
management. It can also help make a portable computer purchase decision a
more informed process.

Power Management That Works! is available now from Annabooks for $24.95.
