PERCON INTRODUCES BAR CODE BASICS -- COMPLETE KIT FOR CREATING AND SCANNING
BAR CODE AT $489 LIST PRICE

December 22, 1994 -- EUGENE, OR - Recognizing the need for a turnkey bar
code scanning solution for PC owners in a variety of industries, Percon
announces the introduction of Bar Code Basics, a complete kit for creating
and scanning bar codes. Designed for the first-time user, Bar Code Basics
is ideal for small to mid-size businesses performing inventory control,
POS, accounting, shipping/receiving, and other data intensive
applications.

"More and more small business owners are turning to bar code as a
cost-effective solution for managing daily business activities," says
Sandy Jumonville, Percon Product Manager. "With Bar Code Basics, a
business owner can take advantage of the benefits of bar code immediately.
And with a list price of under $500, the solution pays for itself in a
very short time."

Bar Code Basics comes with a Percon Series 10 Plus decoder, steel wand and
wand holder, interface cable, PS/2 cable adapter, bar code labeling
software on 3.5" disk, and user's manual. The Series 10 is a keyboard
"wedge" decoder, installing between the user's PC and keyboard. Scanned
data appears on the screen as if it were typed manually. In addition, the
Series 10 Plus can easily auto-discriminate between 15 different bar code
symbologies including Code 39, Code 128, 1 2 of 5, Codabar, and UPC/EAN
and two magnetic stripe tracks. The decoder is fully programmable and is
able to accept bar code input from CCDs and 5-volt lasers. A magnetic
stripe reader can be attached to the second input port on the face of the
decoder, if needed.

"The Percon Series 10 decoder can be installed quickly and easily between
the user's keyboard and PC," adds Jumonville. "It's auto-learn feature
allows users to also teach the decoder the symbologies that need to be
read. The Series 10 Plus provides programming features that allow users to
customize the decoder to their specific application."

The steel six-mil aperture wand is capable of reading a variety of bar
codes including high density and dot-matrix. It provides reliable scans
under a wide range of lighting conditions including direct sunlight. It's
rugged body is comfortable and fits easily in the user's hand for repeated
scanning.

StrandWare Label Matrix LE bar code label software is included for printing
custom bar code labels under DOS or Windows. Five different bar code
symbologies --Code 39, 1 2 of 5, UPC-A, EAN/JAN-13, and Zip+4 POSTNET--can
be printed on dot-matrix, ink jet, thermal transfer and direct thermal
printers
