Jan 9th 1995, Boston MA, Insitu Inc. announces the release and immediate
availability of Insitu Conference Version 1.0, the OLE 2.0 based Microsoft
Windows enterprise wide document conferencing suite.

Insitu Conference is the first Microsoft Windows document conferencing
software to fully utilize the power and potential of Object Linking &
Embedding 2.0 (OLE) via a TCP/IP network. TCP/IP is the networking
protocol at the heart of the Internet (known as the information
superhighway) which is currently experiencing explosive growth. It is also
at the center of many Fortune 1000 corporate networks.

Insitu Conference forms the bridge between the integrated office computing
environment (through OLE) and networked PCs (TCP/IP). In the modern office
environment everything is created on the PC. Even with the phenomenal
growth in the PC market, users sti ll rely on printing documents in order
to discuss their contents in a meeting. Insitu Conference saves time and
money by integrating the PC into regular discussions, reviews and debates.
The immediate benefit realized is an increased flow and accuracy of
information. For telecommuters, businesses and organizations this means
faster, efficient communications and effective decision making.

The Product

Insitu Conference combines

 o OLE 2.0 Distributed Container
o Industry standard Windows Sockets 1.1 TCP/IP networking
o Shared Whiteboard for annotating documents and images
 o Integrated Telephony through Microsoft/Intel . TAPI

Object Linking & Embedding

Insitu Conference is an OLE 2.0 compliant container, allowing users to
simultaneously comment on and edit documents created by other applications
from within Insitu Conferences familiar interface. The power of OLE 2.0 is
enhanced through the implementation of a "distributed" container, giving
people the ability to freely distribute and edit documents over the TCP/IP
link.

With the introduction of Insitu Conference comes a utility that brings the
concept of enterprise-wide document centric computing right onto the
corporate desktop today. Insitu Conference shifts the emphasis toward
document centric computing, through distributed objects, and away from
simply networking existing applications.

Windows Sockets 1.1

Networking connectivity has been implemented through the Windows Sockets
1.1 API guaranteeing TCP/IP vendor independent compatibility. TCP/IP
vendors include FTP Software, WRQ, Netmanage, Novell and Microsoft. With
the upcoming Windows Sockets 2.0 specification, Insitu Conference will be
able to take advantage of protocol independence (enabling ISDN, IPX/SPX,
OSI, SNA and others).

By performing all network activity in the background, Insitu Inc. was able
to allow users to continue working in any Windows program. This is a
competitive advantage since other products force users to wait many
seconds for the transmission to complete. A dditionally, when
collaboratively editing OLE objects, only changes are transmitted via a
proprietary partial OLE compression algorithm.

Annotation tools

The Insitu Conference environment supports capturing any image present on
the Windows desktop. Scanned and non OLE images can be captured and placed
into a shared workspace (or whiteboard). Our designers worked hard to
ensure the Windows compliant MDI was simple and easy to use, allowing
those familiar with the Windows operating environment to rapidly become
productive and reducing support costs for MIS departments.

Conferences can be formal, with a chairman or moderator controlling the
synchronization and flow of workspaces or a general free for all. With
only a practical limit on the number of participants and workspaces Insitu
Conference is suitable for all organi zational sizes and styles.

Telephony

The voice link is integrated into Insitu Conference through the
Microsoft/Intel Telephony API. As soon as a conference connection is
requested, Insitu Conference can also establish the voice link through the
users phone. TAPI is being adopted by many of the worlds communication
leaders including Northern Telecom, Siemens and Alcatel.
