DK Multimedia Announces Four New CD-ROM Titles for Spring '95

Expands Presence into Reference Market For Adults

January 6, 1994, Las Vegas, NV...Dorling Kindersley Multimedia has
announced four new CD-ROM titles for the consumer market for Spring 1995:

The DK WORLD REFERENCE ATLAS (DK Multimedia; Pub Date: April, 1995; $79.95;
Windows PC; Mac available in Fall 1995) uniquely combines stunning country
maps and rich, detailed statistical information which will earn its place
as an indispensable source of reference in every home, classroom, and
office. A collaboration between DK Multimedia and DK's state-of-the-art
Cartography Division, The DK WORLD REFERENCE ATLAS features more than
400,000 words, over 9,000 screens and pop-up windows, more than 600
"zoomable" computer-generated maps and over 500 color photographs and
video sequences.

The DK Cartography Division maintains a constantly updated database of
place names and digitally created maps based on the latest satellite and
geophysical survey data available. Combining the cartographic qualities of
an atlas, the analytical and statistical depth of a gazetteer, and the
reference capabilities of an interactive encyclopedia in one comprehensive
single disc, The DK WORLD REFERENCE ATLAS reveals the world with clarity
at an unsurpassed level of detail, making it the definitive atlas.

THE EYEWITNESS HISTORY OF THE WORLD (DK Multimedia; Pub Date: April, 1995;
$49.95; Windows PC; Mac available in Fall 1995), together with the
Eyewitness Encyclopedias of Science and Nature, lays the foundation of
knowledge for a new generation. Over 75 animations and narrations, 25
video sequences, famous speeches and archival recordings, dynamic maps,
more than 700 full-color photographs and illustrations, and over three
hours of audio bring world history to life. As entertaining as it is
informative, the EYEWITNESS HISTORY OF THE WORLD builds an invaluable base
of multicultural, historical knowledge.

THE EYEWITNESS ENCYCLOPEDIA OF NATURE (DK Multimedia; Pub Date: April,
1995; $49.95; Windows PC; Mac available in Fall 1995), the third CD-ROM in
the Eyewitness Encyclopedia series, brings the natural world right into
your home.

Specially selected video sequences and sound clips show plants and animals
in their natural habitats. Over 40 animations and 60 video sequences, two
hours of audio, over 70,000 words, and more than 700 full-color
photographs and illustrations uniquely create a high level of multimedia
interactivity to produce a superb educational tool.

P.B. BEAR'S BIRTHDAY PARTY (DK Multimedia; Pub Date: April, 1995; $29.95;
Windows PC; Mac available in Fall 1995) brings the world's most
irresistible bear to life! Carefully designed to make even the youngest
children's first steps in reading a pleasure, P.B. BEAR'S BIRTHDAY PARTY
uses a "rebus" approach, inviting users to identify over 150 pictures in
the story to learn words and add to their vocabulary. Children will enjoy
following his adventures in this enchanting, interactive story. Simple
activities and games are interwoven to reinforce first concepts and
promote early reasoning skills. Interactive words and pictures, the
simplest and most intuitive of "point-and-click" interfaces, and charming
characters make this an entertaining and educational delight for
children.

"This is an important list for DK because we are expanding into the adult
reference market," says John Sargent, CEO. "DK's first book list was adult
reference, and that has always been the bedrock of the company. We look
forward to bringing the same level of high quality information publishing
to CD-ROM." In the future, DK Multimedia will continue to publish both
children's and adult titles.

This is DK Multimedia's second list of CD-ROM titles for the consumer
market. In October DK Multimedia shipped their first five CD-ROM titles,
The Way Things Work, based on the best-selling book by David Macaulay, The
Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Science, Stephen Biesty's Incredible
Cross-Sections Stowaway!, My First Incredible, Amazing Dictionary, and The
Ultimate Human Body (Windows PC). The first five titles were released
simultaneously and on schedule. The Mac version of The Way Things Work
shipped December 6, and the other four titles will be available on Mac by
February 1995.

DK Multimedia's international office is headquartered in London, England,
with US marketing, sales and creative operations at Dorling Kindersley
Publishing, Inc. in Manhattan. DK Multimedia employs a creative staff of
135, making it one of the largest multimedia production units in the
world. Established in 1991, the company first developed Musical
Instruments, an award-winning CD-ROM for Microsoft Corporation. DK
Multimedia is creating CD-ROM software for the emerging consumer and
educational multimedia markets.
