DK Multimedia Ships Mac Version of The Way Things Work CD-ROM

Two months ahead of schedule, DK Multimedia announced they will ship the
Mac version of their lead CD-ROM title, The Way Things Work (DK
Multimedia, Mac, $79.95; Pub Date: December 1994), based on the
best-selling book by David Macaulay, by December 6, making it available
nation wide for the Christmas and post-Christmas consumer market. The Way
Things Work CD-ROM for Windows PC shipped in October, coinciding with a
national publicity tour by author David Macaulay, outstanding reviews and
numerous industry awards. In addition to the Mac version, DK Multimedia is
pressing another 25,000 copies of The Way Things Work for Windows PC to
meet retail demand.

"The initial reaction to The Way Things Work has been so strong that we
rushed the Mac version for Christmas." says Dorling Kindersley Publishing,
Inc. CEO John Sargent. Explaining the time lag between the Windows and Mac
releases of The Way Things Work and other DK software he says, "For one
thing, we use our own proprietary runtime software, which has to be
re-coded for the Mac. And our commitment to high-quality content and
top-notch performance calls for intensive testing and debugging." Sargent
notes that DK is committed to the Macintosh, and says that for future DK
CD-ROM titles, the gap between when Windows versions are released and when
Mac versions reach the consumer will narrow to a few weeks.

DK Multimedia's international office is headquartered in London, England,
with US marketing, sales, and creative operations at Dorling Kindersley

Established in 1991, the company first developed Musical Instruments, an
award-winning CD-ROM for Microsoft Corporation.

DK Multimedia is creating multimedia CD-ROM software for the emerging
consumer and educational multimedia markets. Their first five titles, The
Way Things Work, The Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Science, Stephen Biesty's
Incredible Cross-Sections Stowaway!, My First Incredible, Amazing
Dictionary and The Ultimate Human Body were released simultaneously in
October 1994. The company will announce their upcoming spring titles at
the Consumer Electronic Show in January, 1995.
