DELL CONVERTS ITS PENTIUM PROCESSOR-BASED OPTIPLEX DESKTOP LINE TO INTEL'S
UPDATED CHIP

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 4, 1995 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL)
today completed the worldwide conversion of its Pentium processor-based
OptiPlex product line to Intel's updated Pentium chip. Now, all customers
purchasing Dell OptiPlex desktop systems are guaranteed to receive systems
incorporating Intel's updated Pentium processor. Dell, one of the top five
personal computer vendors in the world, manufactures desktop computers and
network servers using Intel's Pentium processor.

Dell expects the transition to Intel's updated Pentium chip to continue to
accelerate across its entire Pentium processor-based product line,
including its OmniPlex desktops, Dell Dimension desktops and PowerEdge
servers.

The company started converting its Pentium processor-based products and
shipping updated Pentium processors to customers on December 22. The
updated Pentium processors correct the recently publicized floating-point
division flaw.

Dell is uniquely positioned to transition its products very quickly to the
updated Pentium processor because of its build-to-order manufacturing
process. This build-to-order approach allows the company to maintain low
inventory levels and quickly ship new systems directly to customers after
manufacturing is completed -- allowing new technologies to move quickly to
market.

In addition, Dell's value-added resellers have direct access to new
technologies as soon as they become available. Unlike resellers that
partner with traditional PC manufacturers, Dell's complete network of
qualified resellers can sell updated Pentium processors immediately.

As the Pentium processor transition continues, Dell expects to remain one
of the worldwide leaders in that transition -- providing the latest in
Pentium processor-based technologies to its customers. "We believe that
our Pentium processor-based systems offer customers the best combination
of performance, reliability and key industry standards such as PCI
(peripheral component interconnect), DMI and Plug and Play to address the
demands of Windows 95 and emerging networked applications," said Tom
Martin, Dell vice president of major accounts marketing.

"As companies try to manage PC life cycle costs, they are finding that
Dell's Pentium processor-based offerings provide superior features for
prices comparable to many of today's 486-based systems. In fact, almost
half of Dell's sales to major corporate and government customers are
Pentium processor-based systems," Mr. Martin added.

Dell, a leader in customer satisfaction, will continue to stand behind its
customers. For customers requesting updated Pentium chips, Dell will ship
and install replacement chips free-of-charge. Customers can call
1-800-403-Dell for more details.

"Since learning of the Pentium issue, we've worked closely with Intel as
well as directly with our customers," said Doug MacGregor, Dell vice
president of desktop systems. "While the vast majority of users remain
unaffected by the floating point issue, we want to make sure that our
customers are completely satisfied with their Dell purchase, whether they
will be affected or not."

A Global 500 company, Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL) designs,
develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports a complete line of
personal computers compatible with industry standards. Dell is the world's
leading direct marketer of personal computers with annual revenues of
nearly $3 billion. Information on the company and its products can be
