Apple Now Shipping MS-DOS- and Windows-compatible Power Macintosh System
and Card

CUPERTINO, California--January 4, 1995--Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced it is now shipping the Power Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible
system and DOS Compatibility Card for the Power Macintosh 6100 and
Macintosh Performa 6100 series. These new products, announced at the Fall
1994 Comdex trade show, combine the exceptional price/performance value of
Apple's RISC-based Power Macintosh with the capabilities of a Windows- and
DOS-based personal computer.

In addition, the products offer customers the ability to easily integrate
Macintosh into mixed computing environments as well as allow x86-based PC
users to bring their favorite DOS/Windows applications with them as they
move to the Macintosh platform.

By removing compatibility as a barrier to consider Macintosh, the Power
Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible is expected to attract new customers to the
Macintosh platform. These products build on the market success of previous
cross-platform products such as the Macintosh Quadra 610 DOS Compatible
system and card.

Powered by a PowerPC 601 microprocessor and a 486 DX2/66 microprocessor,
the Power Macintosh DOS Compatible system runs the widest range of
mainstream PC softwareincluding DOS, Windows and Macintosh applicationsin
addition to the more than 415 native applications which have been
optimized for Power Macintosh. Ideally suited for home, education and
business customers who work in mixed computing environments, these
products enable users to easily switch between the Macintosh and DOS
computing environments with a simple keyboard command.

For example, customers in small business or home offices have the
flexibility of working with a full range of programs and files to meet
their clients' needs. At home, children can run Macintosh programs that
they use at school while their parents can work on DOS/Windows files from
work. Medium and large businesses have the ability to connect to the
corporate network to utilize printing and file resources.

"With the Power Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible system, Apple is giving
customers the unprecedented ability to run the most extensive selection of
PC applications in the industry," said Ian Diery, executive vice president
of Apple's Personal Computer Division. "This hardware option, in
conjunction with our software solution incorporating Insignia Solutions'
SoftWindows product, demonstrates Apple's continuing commitment to
cross-platform solution and helps to remove compatibility as a barrier to
moving to Macintosh."

Product Features and Enhancements

The Power Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible features dual processors, enabling
users to work in both Macintosh and DOS environments simultaneously. A
66MHz PowerPC 601 microprocessor runs Mac OS software, while a 66MHz 486
DX2 runs DOS and Windows-based software. Working independently, the dual
processors allow users to run Macintosh and DOS or Windows applications in
tandem, and even copy and paste information between the two environments.

The Power Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible improves on the technology of the
popular 68040-based Macintosh Quadra 610 DOS Compatible awarded "Best
System" by Byte Magazine at Fall Comdex '93. Featuring a faster processor
than its predecessor, the Power Mac 6100 DOS Compatible also offers
enhanced multimedia capabilities, such as built-in support of Creative
Labs' Sound Blaster chipset for 16-bit audio playback, as well as improved
networking compatibility with support for NetWare IPX and TCP/IP network
protocols via an ODI- compliant driver.

Dual monitor support, provided by the Power Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible,
allows customers to add a second display without purchasing an additional
video card to view the Macintosh and DOS environments simultaneously. The
Power Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible supports most VGA, SVGA and multisynch
monitors as well as all current Apple displays.

The same shared drive runs Macintosh, MS-DOS or Windows applications. The
optional double speed internal CD-ROM drive runs Macintosh, DOS and
Windows CD-ROM discs, providing users with access to the hundreds of
exciting CD-ROM titles currently available. In addition, DOS and Windows
applications print to any Apple or Macintosh-compatible printer through he
built-in serial or ethernet ports.

Availability and Pricing

The Power Macintosh 6100 DOS Compatible system and card are now shipping in
limited quantities in selected regions worldwide, with volume shipments
expected to begin by the end of January 1995. Equipped with with 16MB of
RAM and a 500MB hard disk, the Power Mac 6100 DOS Compatible has an Apple
price of US $2,759. The DOS Compatibility Card, with an Apple price of US
$739, may be installed in existing Power Macintosh 6100 or Performa 6100
series products to give those customers cross-platform capabilities.

Power Mac sales continue at a brisk pace amidst widespread customer
acceptance, strong developer support, and a continually growing array of
native applicationscurrently numbering over 400. From mid-March 1994
through September 1994, Apple shipped over 600,000 Power Macintosh
