Apple Announces Plans To Enhance AppleShare for Speedier Performance

SAN FRANCISCO, California--January 4, 1995--At the Macworld Exposition,
Apple Computer, Inc. today announced its intention to release a
significantly faster version of its flagship AppleShare file and print
software. The new software, currently under development, is expected to be
available by mid-1995 and is being designed to greatly increase AppleShare
performance when running on a PowerPC processor-based Workgroup Server
6150, 8150 or 9150.

Customers who purchase an Apple RISC-based Workgroup Server after January
1, 1995 will receive the new software for a nominal shipping and handling
charge. It will also come pre-installed on selected PowerPC
processor-based Workgroup Server configurations when it is available.

"Our commitment to improve AppleShare performance and provide Workgroup
Server customers with low-cost upgrades means they can buy today with
assurance that their AppleShare file-and-print solution will get even
faster in the future," said Doug McLean, director of marketing for Apple
Business Systems. "This is part of Apple's ongoing strategy to provide
Apple server customers with improved value over time by enhancing the
software solutions available for the Workgroup Servers."

Apple also today announced price reductions of up to 11 percent on its
PowerPC processor-based Workgroup Servers (See related press release:
"Apple Reduces Workgroup Server Prices") and plans to make available its
new Windows Client for AppleShare software--free of charge--to Workgroup
Server customers who purchase their system after January 1, 1995 (See

AppleShare and AppleSearch").
