Version 1.2 of the Apple Media Kit Now Available; Supports QuickTime 2.0,
Creates Power Macintosh Run time Applications

CANNES, France (Milia Exhibition)--January 13, 1995--Apple Computer, Inc.
announced that version 1.2 of the Apple Media Kit, the company's
object-oriented, cross-platform multimedia authoring tool, is now
available. The Kit--comprised of the Apple Media Tool for authors,
designers and educators and the Apple Media Tool Programming Environment
for programmers--will now support Apple QuickTime 2.0, and will enable
creation of projects that run natively on Apple Power Macintosh computers,
in addition to Apple Macintosh computers and Microsoft Windows-based PCs.
Apple is also announcing a reduced price and retail distribution for the
Apple Media Tool, and bundling of the required subset of the Macintosh
Programmer's Workshop (MPW) with the Programming Environment.

"In keeping with Apple's commitment to help multimedia developers succeed,
this new version of the Apple Media Kit provides support for the highest
quality multimedia creation and delivery across many platforms," said
Ralph Rogers, product line manager, media authoring tools, Apple Computer,
Inc. "The reduced price, broader retail distribution and advanced support
for the Apple Media Tool, along with MPW bundled with the Programming
Environment, makes the Apple Media Kit even more accessible and affordable
for a wide variety of end users and developers."

Developers are already using the Apple Media Tool and the Programming
Environment to produce highly innovative multimedia projects, including
interactive multimedia catalogs and rock music titles, some of the first
interactive on-line advertising and among the most sophisticated networked
kiosks.

The Apple Media Kit has received many awards including MacUser "Eddy"
Editor's Choice Award for "Best New Multimedia Product of 1993," and was
nominated again in 1994. The Kit was rated four stars out of five in both
MacWeek and MacUser magazine reviews in 1994.

Supports QuickTime 2.0, Creates Power Macintosh Run-times

QuickTime is Apple's software that brings multimedia capabilities to
personal computers and consumer electronic devices. The Apple Media Kit's
support for QuickTime 2.0 makes it possible for developers to create
multimedia projects with much higher quality video and animation and makes
it easier to create, edit, synchronize music with video and playback music
on computers without understanding MIDI technology.

Once created on the Macintosh, Apple Media Kit projects can be converted to
run in Macintosh, Power Macintosh and Windows-based environments at the
click of a button. This saves developers valuable time and effort, because
projects can be authored once on a Macintosh computer and delivered to
many platforms.

Distribution, Support and Pricing

The Apple Media Tool will now, for the first time, be available in all
Apple software distribution channels, including dealers and retail
software outlets. The reduced price for the Apple Media Tool is US$599
SRP, the Apple Media Tool Programming Environment is US$995 SRP and the
Apple Media Kit, which includes both the Tool and the Programming
Environment, is US$1,195 SRP. Special higher education pricing is
available. Qualified customers should contact a local Apple educational
representative for more information. An advanced support option is also
available.

MPW Bundled

The Apple Media Tool Programming Environment now includes the required
subset of MPW bundled at no additional charge. The Programming Environment
works in conjunction with the MPW Shell for debugging multimedia projects,
allowing programmers, for example, to inspect objects, step through code
and set breakpoints while a project is running. MPW is conveniently
preconfigured and ready to use, saving valuable development time.

New Code, Demos and Samples

The Apple Media Kit version 1.2 will feature a number of demos and samples
designed to save time and stimulate creativity in developing multimedia
titles. A number of top developers have contributed "shareware" multimedia
project samples and MPW scripts. Several vendors have submitted sample
media collections as well.

Upgrade Policy and Availability

Versions 1.2 of the Apple Media Tool and Programming Environment are
available now to all registered users of version 1.0 for US$49 SRP each. A
demo CD of the Apple Media Kit is now available for US$10 SRP. Upgrades to
the Apple Media Kit and the demo CD are available through APDA, Apple's
source for developer tools, by calling 1-800-282-2732 (U.S.),
1-800-637-0029 (Canada), or 716-871-6555 (International).

Licensing

Apple has bundled the run-time license for the Apple Media Kit with
QuickTime and QuickTime for Windows. This single license, valid for three
years, is available for enterprise and commercial publishers at a flat fee
of $500 per title. For multimedia developers, educational institutions and
nonprofit organizations there is no royalty fee. A site license is
available for enterprise use.
