Zenith Data Systems drops Z-NOTEFLEX prices, expands performance and
support features

Strategic value-adds for popular notebook PCs target year-end purchases

Buffalo Grove, Ill. -- December 19, 1994 -- Zenith Data Systems announced
today aggressive price reductions on its entire line of popular Z-NOTEFLEX
notebook PCs, including savings of up to 18 percent and a new street price
range starting at only $2,369. ZDS also introduced new Z-NOTEFLEX premium
performance upgrade and configuration options, extended service and
support hours, plus an expanded Z-NOTEFLEX LCD protection policy.

"The Z-NOTEFLEX price/performance value has never been stronger," said
Cliff Jenks, ZDS executive vice president Of sales and marketing. "We've
seen tremendous customer demand for our Z-NOTEFLEX product line. This
series of strategic value-add moves will build even more momentum as
year-end corporate PC purchasing activity peaks, and will further
strengthen the company's competitive positioning within the full-featured
notebook computer market."

Market-leading Flexibility, Performance and Savings

With prices reduced as much as 18 percent and new retail ranges starting as
low as $2,369, the Z-NOTEFLEX family of computers will lead the year-end
marketplace in affordable flexibility and premium performance. Z-NOTEFLEX
notebooks feature unprecedented user-configurable components and an
unparalleled modular design that enables the system to be used longer and
in more productive ways than most notebooks. To enhance overall
performance of the high-end notebook product line, ZDS combined the
benefits of local-bus video and local-bus IDE hard disk drive subsystems
for maximum data throughput.

The series of premium-performance Z-NOTEFLEX upgrades and configurations
announced by ZDS include support for the new 100MHz version of the Intel
DX4 microprocessor. One of the first portable systems on the market with a
fully user-upgradeable CPU design, the Z-NOTEFLEX also supports a full
range of Intel 3.3-volt 486 SL-Enhanced processors including Intel's 33Mhz
486SX, 50MHz iDX2, and the 75MHz iDX4 processors.

Street pricing for the new Intel DX4/100-based systems start at $2,969 with
first customer shipments expected later this month.
ZDS also added a 700MB IDE hard drive to the list of 200, 340, 450 and
520MB configurations currently available for the Z-NOTEFLEX. All of the
2.5-inch IDE disks carry an advanced local-bus interface for improved
performance, and are easily removed for shared use, data security or
upgrading purposes.

"The Z-NOTEFLEX was designed to provide mobile users with all the computing
resources normally found on desktop PCs," said David O'Conner, executive
vice president of ZDS' worldwide product group. "The addition of 100MHz
processing power and higher capacity hard drives moves us closer to that
reality."

Extended Service, Support and LCD Protection

In addition to price drops and new high performance models, ZDS announced
the availability of 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week Z-NOTEFLEX product
support. With the extension of corporate support hours, ZDS' Customer
Assistance Center is now prepared to respond to the needs of customers on
a continuous and toll-free basis.

To further enhance customer service and satisfaction, ZDS is also offering
a new Z-NOTEFLEX "no-fault" LCD protection policy. The company's Z-CARE
warranty service program has been broadened to include an optional plan
targeted at protecting the customer's investment in the Z-NOTEFLEX video
display panel. Under the terms of the annual policy, ZDS will replace up
to two LCD panels per year, at no cost to the customer to cover accidental
damage.

"The powerful combination of unbeatable savings, service, performance and
investment protection will make purchasing decisions a lot easier for a
lot of people as the year closes," commented Jenks. "The standard
configuration flexibility and innovative accessory options of the
Z-NOTEFLEX made it a great deal even before we added more value. Now it's
a can't-pass-it-up package."

Standard Features

The Z-NOTEFLEX offers a range of high-quality, interchangeable VGA video
displays, including the largest monochrome and dual-scan color LCDs
currently available for notebook computers. Users may select from a
9.5-inch 256-color TFT active-matrix, a 10.3-inch 256-color DSTN color
LCD, or a 10.4-inch 64-grey shade monochrome LCD. Simultaneous VGA video
support is available on all Z-NOTEFLEX systems, including DSTN color
models.

The notebook comes standard with a 3.5-inch, 1.44MB floppy disk drive which
can be swapped for a second battery pack, upgradeable FLASH BIOS, two Type
II PCMCIA slots forming a single Type III slot, one serial port, one
EPP/ECP enhanced parallel port, an external video port, and a PS/2-style
mouse/keyboard/keypad port. It also integrates 1MB of video RAM and a bit
aligned block transfer (BITBLT) hardware graphics accelerator.

computing frontier, with a range of leading-edge features including a
built-in, high-quality 16-bit sound system and the option to add a
